I guess we’re boring, we go out to dinner at a nicer restaurant then we normally would.  Dress up, have some drinks, good food, and then give each other a gift.

DH’s birthday is on Christmas Eve, so it can be a struggle to do something special during all the other Christmas activities.

Last year was his 30th birthday, so for 30 days leading up to it, I gave him a gift.  He was so excited to get a different gift every day.  I also threw him a surprise birthday dinner (he hates surprises and attention, so I had to keep it very low key with only his closest friends and family.)

This year, he just wants to go skiing and snowshoeing, the weekend before his birthday.  We’re going out to the mountains, and it’s his weekend to enjoy his favourite activities.  On Christmas eve, we’ll have dinner with the family to celebrate.

I’m also giving him a trip to Arizona to visit his brother and to go skydiving.  We leave in January, so I hope he can get the time off work 🙂

paigey22:  I love experience dates, especially something new that we haven’t tried before. Ice skating, seeing a local play or musical, taking an Indian cooking class, learning how to blow glass (that was so much fun, even if our end products were atrocious), checking out the planetarium at our University, or finding a new recipe online and going to an ethnic grocery to buy the ingredients. It depends on your budget, but I love having a new adventure with my husband.

every year for his birthday I take Fiance to an NFL game. It’s always a fun thing we get to experience together and he looks forward to it every year. We also take a trip to a romantic destination (his parents gift to him) and we do dinner & drinks.

I cook something special for him. We have a romantic dinner, made by me. With the candles and everything. This year we had his family over for dinner ’cause he wanted to share my cooking, lol. And of course he got a little treat before dinner and after they left. But we are boring people so…

paigey22:  I get him a few gifts I know he would like, make his favorite dinner, make a birthday cake (with a theme he’s into), and then great sex. He loves birthdays every year! He’s more of a low key guy (for his birthday especially).

FutureMrsHodgy:  NFL game… So cool!! Great gift 🙂

I decorate the house and buy or bake a cake for him. Then when he gets home from work…the kids and I sing him happy birthday. We don’t have money for gifts because the first few paychecks after x mas are really small.

His birthday happens to fall along with two of his closest friends so this year we had a party for the three of them–we {the girlfriends} reserved a room in a restaurant we like, decorated it and invited a ton of people.  We are a close group so it was a great evening.  Our guys thought it was just going to be a quiet dinner out and were really surrised that we managed to pull off a party complete with balloons and cake with candles!  I even arranged to have our favorite servers in attandance.  I had given him his present earlier in the day to completely throw him off the track, so when we got to the restaurant he didn’t suspect a thing.

We usually do dinner with his family, and a dinner with friends. For us two, I like to plan experiences. One year we went camping and another year we rode ATVs in the desert.

The first birthday I celebrated of his occurred just a few weeks after we started dating, and I took him for a whisky tasting at a local pub since he really likes whisky. The second birthday I had to work the entire day and night before his birthday, but I had a cake for him… and other stuff ;).

Darling Husband has all his buddies over for a poker game. We have tons of food, tons of booze, and good old friends around. He looks so forward to it every year. Some of the guys stay over, well, actually they pass out, the rest I drive home or wives pick them up. His birthday is in three weeks and we’ve had guys asking about this year’s poker party for months, so it’s not just Darling Husband that looks forward to it.

Our birthdays are pretty close together [Feb 22 & Mar 16], so we normally just do one big birthday event.

We always have cake [regular vanilla for him, and a dairy queen icecream cake for me!], have a nice dinner and do something that we’ve been wanting to do [could be a movie, experiance, concert, ect].

paigey22:  I normally take my fiancee out to sushi, he LOVES sushi and always gets excited to hit up his favorite restaurant, especially when he doesn’t have to pay haha! He’s not big on social things and typically he just wants the two of us to do something low key. He also loves fake cake– the kind you pick up from the grocery store bakery so I pick him up a smaller size cake for him to enjoy for the next week or so. Ask your fiancee if there’s anything special he would like to do that day! I just try and make the day as stress free as possible, even if we end up not doing much.
