Gas or electric? My answer will vary depending on which you have!  😉

I usually use Windex All-Purpose, or some Lysol. Both work pretty well for it.

@Sweet.Sugar.Rose:  I have no idea if it’s safe. Haha. But that’s what I use and I haven’t had anything catch fire or anything like that yet.

I just pull off everything and throw the trays in the sink to soak. I use the foil liners, but it still gets dirty under. Then I just spray my kitchen cleaner and scrub down, wash the trays and put them back, new foil liners and put the elements back in.

It depends how long it has been since you have cleaned under there. You can soak rags and set it on the crud to loosen it but sometimes it takes some cooking oil. LOL can you tell I have cleaned a lot of nasty homes working hospice? You can use oven cleaner but unplug your stove first as my goofy cousin turned the oven on right after I sprayed it and I now know how to use a fire extinguisher!

Oh and I am a big fan of comet for those really tough jobs!

Soap & water…?

ETA: I think they show a stove top in the CLR cleaning commercial.

wipe up allmthe loose bits. make a paste of baking soda and water (baking soda can be used toout out fires so getting hot won’t hurt if you leave it there) and smear it the surface. baking soda is a really good household cleaner! leave the paste on and it should help dissolve the grease and burned bits. then get a wet rag and clean it out.

When I used to have a coil type electric stove I would lift up the top. wipe up any loose bits, then lay a towel that was wet with detergent and hot water flat. tAfter an hour or so, just lift it up and wipe it clean.
