So another post got me thinking about how I cook and I realized that I almost never follow recipes to a T. Plus I’m not a big measurer on a lot of things.
So what about you? Do you follow the recipe or make it your own? How much do you measure? ect….

I used to follow recipes to the letter, but now that I’m comfortable in the kitchen I rarely measure anything and usually modify them to my taste.

I usually follow the recipe the first time just to make sure I have the basics down. After that…I add my own flavor =) I am trying to do better about that though b/c now my daughter gets just as frustrated as I did when my mom used to tell me to add a “pinch” of this or a “splash” of that…LOL

I never really follow a recipe – I am a throw into the pot kinda cook!

I’m an experimenter – I usually warn my guy if he doesn’t like it, he doesn’t have to eat it. If there’s something specific I want to make, I will follow a recipe (like my mom’s lemon bread, yum!) I am happy to say that most of my experimental dinners turn out pretty well, though!

@littlelinx – me too! I’ll use something as a base, but go off on my own thing and experiment. I ask for opinions when I want one (I ask for compliments if need those, haha) so if the meal turns out bad, I don’t feel too terrible and I don’t feel hurt if it doesn’t get eaten, haha. Though my husband will generally eat anything I make – he’s a good hubby.

I tend to follow the recipe pretty closely when it comes to main ingredients, but am a bit more liberal with spices and flavorings.

I follow the receipe the first time and I mess with it only later if there is something I want to change.

I treat the recipe as a guideline and usually make ingredient substitutions (in cooking). Baking is a different matter… I have to follow the recipes to the letter or it doesn’t turn out.
