Just wondering what you bees out there thought about solitaire engagement rings? This co-worker of mine is getting ready to propose to his current gf and we were having the bigger/better diamond with a solitaire vs. getting a nice pave ring with a smaller diamond (due to budget restriction).
He told me he would rather get a bigger diamond with a cheap solitaire…
Just for fun

I agree with the solitaire. They’re a classic!

I agree with the solitaire! Who knows, in 10 years maybe she wants to upgrade the band.

I love solitaire rings. As others noted, they’re so classic. I feel like you just can’t go wrong with a solitaire, and she can always get a wedding band with diamonds if she wants to add a bit more sparkle later.

I’d always opt for a bigger high quality diamond on a plain band in a solitaire versus spending more money on a setting with side diamonds. I love true solitaires. And it looks great with a blingy wedding band.

When I spoke to my boyfriend at the time about this issue I said “Focus on the rock!” He knew about the size I wanted and ALL the C’s are important to me so let the band be as simple as you want… I ended up getting and even larger, better quality diamond with the stress taken off of the setting… We have been engaged for 10 months and I just recently had the diamond re-set. (eventhough I did love my solitaire) 2.54 carat princess cut diamond (H,VS2, Ideal cut) on a 3/4 carat shared prong band.
