I’m going to a concert tomorrow night that I just found out will feature some major laser light shows. I’m an epileptic, so… yeah. Not good. To make it clear I know a lot of people enjoy them so I don’t think they should be banned just for people like me. Curious to know if other Bees enjoy them or find them annoying?

It depends on what the concert is. If I have a migraine there is no way I can enjoy one! Most of the time I’m pretty indifferent. Occassionally they actually add to the experience.

It depends. The bloody strobe lights mess with me and I’m not even epileptic! Lasers don’t bug me so much. I would have loved to see Jean Michel Jarre back in the day!! I haven’t seen too many concerts… let alone ones with laser/light shows.

I don’t mind colored lights and lasers, but strobe lights make me feel sick to my stomach and dizzy. I’m not epileptic or anything, I just don’t handle strobe lights well at all.

I hate white strobe lights, however, I don’t usually mind colored lights. Are you still planning on going to the concert?

I’ve seen Passion Pit in concert twice, and they have the most amazing light shows! absolutely love it. although it would probably not be appropriate for all types of music. hope you enjoy the show tomorrow, and stay safe!

@MrsBeck: Hell yeah! It’s Nine Inch Nails! I’m thinking maybe I should wear my sunglasses? I would feel horrible if I didn’t go because I practically held a gun to DH’s head to get the tickets and they were expensive.

They’re way better than seeing everyone’s damn iphone screen. That’s what really gets to me (though granted, I am not epileptic, so it’s more of an irritation thing than anything.)

I love them! But now I’m sad the concert just got a LOT less fun for you!

I feel the same way about light shows as I do about fireworks. I think they’re dated and unimpressive, and people only react positively to them because we are socialized to think they’re a positive thing.
If I wanted to go see pretty flashes, I would go rewatch Avatar. Please just do the thing where you make amazing noise. That is enough.

I dislike them because there’s a remote but real chance of sustaining some serious eye injury from the lasers. And that’s not really that fun.

Lasers, roaming spotlights, and the blinders (which go in onto the crowd for a few seconds and literally blind you temporarily) always give me awful migraines and make me ill. So shows that have excessive light effects like that are hard for me to enjoy. I know they look kind of cool, but some shows definitely over do it.
Hope you’re still able to enjoy it though!

Sometimes I like them and sometimes I don’t.

@Bracelet00: Ah yes, thank you. I also don’t really get the whole appeal of fireworks either.
@Aquaria: Not a big fan of light shows and would prefer they weren’t in the concerts, but sometimes they’re well incorporated. That or I just really want to be at the concert, so I’ll suck it up. If they’re really bad though, I end up closing my eyes for a while.

Update: I survived the Nine Inch Nails show and it was awesome! Darling Husband was so sweet and covered my eyes for me whenever the big white strobes came on. I loved the lasers.
