Nope, to me wall paper is very outdated.

It’s all about the STYLE of the wallpaper, imo. The type shown in The Property Brothers tends to be very modern (stripes, chevrons, bold) and used as an accent wall, which I think is really tasteful and a smart use of space. But, you know, the faded flowery stuff that’s on the walls of the bathrooms of my parents’ house? Not cool.

I effing haaaate wallpaper! When we bought our house every room had at least one wall with wallpaper and it was horrible getting it off. It was such a pain in the ass. My thought is that even if it’s back in style right now, it might not be in 20 years (or at least the print might not be) and some poor little new homeowner with have to suffer for your trendy mistake. Lol.

We used textured wallpaper on one wall in our master. I Love it! But I know it will show more wear and tear then regular wallpaper…you can kind of see it in the picture below.

ETA- I guess you can’t really see it!!! Its the back wall…Its super subtle but I love statement walls!

I would definitely use wall paper. Two of my favorite interior designers use wall paper and it definitely doesn’t look ugly and out dated. Obviously if it’s wall paper from the 70-90s, then yes, which is what most people think of when they think of wall paper as a few pp’s of indicated.

I do agree that the old wall paper is a pain in the ass to remove. Maybe they’ve changed it up over the decades and wall paper today isn’t that bad?

AOriver:  The view you have from your bedroom is gorgeous. It seems like it would be so relaxing to wake up to that every day.

Onto the wallpaper topic: My Mother-In-Law has an accent wall in their bedroom that I absolutely adore, and I had thought I hated wallpaper. I probably wouldn’t use it, personally, because I would never want to go through the hassle of changing it even if I wanted to. I do think that some wallpapers can make a room look so chic!

howtobeawife:  I watch a lot of those shows and read design blogs! Wall to wall (floral–ick!) wallpaper is very outdated, but the way they do it with an accent wall is very on trend. I love the textured walls and very subtle patterns/prints can be nice.

Just because something is a trend doesn’t mean you can’t try it now and re-do it when it’s no longer in style! There are tons of removable wallpaper options nowadays in the market. It’s not like the olden days where you had to fight tooth and nail to remove it when you wanted a change.
