ljm308: This is something I thought of, too–think about how disruptive that would be in your classroom if the phone/PA/whatever was going off every ten minutes because a parent had arrived to pick up their child. I can’t imagine much learning got done that day.
weatherbug: This is so true! I went into one elementary school that day where three of the grades had consolidated their kids down to one classroom for each grade because the teachers had to go home when their kids’ districts got let out early, and there were no subs to be had. In a community like ours where lots of teachers can’t afford to live in the district this is something that would have to be considered.
