If I could, I would SO hit the gym early morning.  But schedule just doesn’t permit it.  BUT, a few years ago, I did.

I would ALWAYS lay out my workout clothes right next to my bed, so i could roll out, take off pjs and put on workout gear.  Brush teeth, contacts, grab a banana…off to gym.  I was training for a marathon when I did this…I would love to do this now…not the marathon but workout in the morning.  I get up at 5am to take care of our dogs, etc..so I’d have to get up at like 4am…yeah..not happening.

Does your gym have shower facilities?  It might be easier for you to get ready there?  Just a thought.

I’m currently trying to convince myself to start morning workouts…oh it’s awful! I hate mornings! And I can’t workout at 100% until after I’ve been awake for a few hours. Otherwise, I get nauseous even if I haven’t eaten.

My solution? I’m going to try swimming in the morning. After the workout, I’ll reward myself with some time in the whirlpool and sauna to relax and get rid of the morning chill. Of course, this is all still theory right now since I have yet to get my butt up early enough to do it!! I’m looking forward to seeing some suggestions too!

yes, somebody please tell me the secret to dragging your butt out of bed in the morning to workout. I have a gym membership currently gathering dust because I can’t get motivated enough to go!

Ha ha!  I’m looking for the secret too.  I hear that Kim Kardashian simply sleeps in her work out clothes so that all she has to do is crawl out of bed in the morning and go to the gym.  Sounds a bit extreme, but this could work! Lol.

One way that helps me is I ask myself “What’s better laying in bed for an extra hour, or being in shape and being more confident.” My best friend started saything this to herself when she wanted to eat something like a piece of cake and it helped her loose weight.

Honestly…and I should’ve added this to my previous post…you just do it. Who wants to work all day and then hit the gym? I do this but I’d rather not. I just heard that if you consistently do something for 21 days straight, it becomes habit. So why not set a goal for yourself of hitting the gym in the morning (not necessarily 21 days in a row) until it becomes habit.

@CorgiTales: haha same here! He leaves at 4:30 every morning to go to the gym and I feel so blissfully happy that I am in bed and he is not. That whole, “give myself a pep talk to get out of bed” probably wouldn’t work very well.

@ktisthatbees: lol right. for a while he really bugged me about it (at my request) and got my ass out of bed. then he got kind of tired of my whining and was like whatever car is leaving in 15 if you want to be in it… 🙂 I need to get back on the ball and do it though! e-pics in 2.5 weeks and i need to lose… oh… 30 pounds… heh

i go to spin class in the morning now, and i used to go to yoga class in the mornings before – something about the whole “class” thing and knowing that i HAVE to be there by a certain time helped me – i dont have the discipline by myself to get up and moving, but knowing that there was a set time worked

get a gym buddy so you’re accountable- or just make yourself go until it becomes a habit. I have always done early morning sports- running, swimming, and rowing but now with work and dogs I’d have to get up at 4 and going to bed at 8pm just isn’t going to happen…

Letsgopens- I like that idea. That’s how I keep myself running I usually add in- it’s just 30 minutes, think of all the other crap you do for 30 minutes a day…

@happyb: Haha, I used to do that!!! When I was rowing I had to be up and out of my dorm room to catch my ride at 5am. I definitely slept in my rowing clothes every night. That way I didn’t have to wake up until 4:30.

@CorgiTales: You know, not to hijack this thread or anything, but I think my biggest problem is that I get to the gym and feel totally overwhelmed! So many machines, I have no idea what to do, ok let’s go hop on the eliptical and be a cardio bunny cause that’s the only thing I can think of. . .”

So can I add the question of: When you do motivate yourself to go to the gym, what the heck do you do when you get there?!

I have no clue how people do it!  I’m so not a morning person and I realize this makes me sound lazy – that is how I sound to myself atleast.  But I value that morning snooze so much!  I should go – I go to our apartment complex gym about 100 steps from my front door, I have no excuse!  I have a plan that (hmm someday) I’ll get up when Darling Husband goes to work at 5:45 and have enough time to work out/get ready for when I leave at 7:45.  I need some seriously internal motivation!
