When I was younger, I would always volunteer at the Salvation Army’s Giving Tree. Now, I just buy gifts for them, since they go to underprivileged kids and folks in nursing homes who don’t have family who visit, both of whom would not get anything otherwise.

We adopt a family. This year we have a single mother with a 4.5 yr old little girl. We are going to buy them their necessities, plus some extra stuff and drop it off and the donation centre, they will then distribute to the mother for Christmas. I have everything I need so I want to be able to help out another family who needs it. That is the best feeling in the world.

I wanted to find a family to adopt. But it’s to late now. Also, when we do the giving tree (salvation army) all the kids around here ask for iPods and such. And none have their clothing size, or color they like.

I put together food baskets containing all the food for a complete Thanksgiving meal for less fortunate families in my town.  We give out the baskets a few days before Thanksgiving so that the families can serve their own families a homecooked meal.

Unfortunately I don’t have the time or money to do anything for anyone else πŸ™ I work in retail so the best I can do is be friendly. But when I was little my parents and I would always do the Angel Tree at church, which gives gifts to kids who were taken away from their parents or their parent(s) is/are in jail. Once I can afford it I want  to adopt a family every year.

It’s a bit different from what you all posted, but I make a donation to the local non-kill cat shelter. It will help to get a stray or two out of the freezing cold, or feed the homeless cats they currently house.

We adopt a 4-5 person family every year. Its now tradition that my husband and I go shopping for them. We then limit our own present spending to each other to only $50.

We still buy for our families though.
