My Fiance and I get little tags off of the giving tree at his church. We each pick 2 people to do and go shopping for them. I love doing things like this, it’s what Christmas is really all about! My parents have done this for years at their church. They try to do about 5 or 6 every year.

@secondchances: Haha well, mine is several years because Fiance and I are in school. So it could be a few years before we get to be financially stable enough. I wish I had time to do volunteer work or visiting but I work almost full time and am taking 18 credits per semester ๐Ÿ™

I usually give back via money (as opposed to volunteering my time, though I should do that too): We do the giving tree at church and Toys for Tots at work. This year I’m also trying to give more to charities but they’re sort of miscellaneous and not necessarily Christmas related. I heard a radio show recently about a family that kept adopting foster kids with special needs and they were talking about an organization called Forever Family, it’s a child advocacy/foster care group, so that’s one of the things I gave to this year.

We give money to the rescue group we got one of our dogs from every month, and then in December we donate an extra $100-$200 to the group for medical bills. It’s not much, but it’s all we can do right now. We donate a lot of time every week to the group, but November/December are really busy for us so we try to make up for it in money ๐Ÿ™‚

@secondchances: I can’t take credit for it lol. A friend of mine whose a Sheriff, he goes out every Christmas eve and buys around 150 in sandwhichs from the supermarket deli, chips, bottles of water and packs them into lunches and hands them out. ๐Ÿ™‚

Growing up, my family always did Operation Christmas Child, which I really enjoyed doing.  DH and I have volunteered together at local food banks helping them sort and stock the donations, as well as preparing any food baskets they were handing out.  I’m not sure what we’re going to do this year, but we will likely try to do something similar.
