I don’t like the sound of it for a girl or a boy.

It sounds like a wildlife park, not a child’s name.

Sorry…Copeland was the name of a teacher from FI’s and my high school.  He was a misogynist who taught that the 19th amendment (women’s sufferage) was a mistake and threatened to kick Fiance in the balls. Can’t get behind it at all.

It sounds like a last name.

I’ve lived in several cities with restaurants with that name (the New-Orleans chain Copeland’s with locations in a lot of places), so for me the name-association isn’t good–like naming a child Applebee’s of Chili’s.  I like some of the last-names-as-first-names-trend, but Copeland’s is a little too “old man” for my taste.  I wouldn’t even like it for a boy…although I have no problems with the other popular last-names-as-first-names like Hudson, Taylor, Jackson, etc.

I sort of like it, it has a sweet quirkiness.  It depends on your last name and who this child will be hanging out with though.  Like Copeland Brynne would be amazing name (no clue where that came from), but you have to be ready to own the waspiness of it.

I think it sounds more like a company name or something like “Copeland Financial”. But go with what you love!

Nope – don’t like it as a first name for either gender.  Sorry.

@abbie017:  “It sounds like a last name.”

I know someone with the last name Copeland.
