I feel like I am being swallowed by paper some days!! I have a lot of paper products for work, but I get so much crap in the mail, and things I feel like I need to save, that I literally have piles of paper laying around.
How do you organize your paper and keep from having stacks laying around?

We scan important items in and shred/recycle the paper. It allows us to keep everything incredibly organized without taking up any space. We back everything up off-ste, as well.
Living in small apartments for the last decade, space was too precious to waste on paper storage!

Do you use something like a Neat Desk scanner? I really need to get one of those!

So far I have been usiong display folders and they have worked really well for me. I use one per year and every plastic sleeve is coded month by month. However, it sucks when I can’t remember which month the paper was received and dated lol so if you have A LOT of papers that prob wouldn’t be a good idea. You could use multiple display folders and have them all categorised…. so when you need to find something re. receipts you will need to look in your ‘receipt’ folder and when you need to find something relating to your bills look in your ‘bill’ folder. You could even go as far as categorising different folders into ‘electricity’, ‘water’, ‘insurance’, or whatever.
ORRRR you could ditcht the folder idea and buy a cute filing cabinet and use the dividers to categorise everything 😛

I am extremley anal about my filing cabinet haha, I also have an “in” and “out” box on my desk, as well as a standing paper organizer, with free standing folders in them (pretty colors, of course- i’m the only girl in my office) for stuff i’m currently working on. and I get picked on all the time for being so organized. I’m an obsessive tab-ber. I but self-sticking tabs on everything haha! Stickey notes. AH!

Switch all your bills to electronic ones. Each month download the statement onto your computer.

I have one filing drawer in a desk in the office/den. Whe I open the mail, I use a one touch system. A decision has to be made then and there on where to put that paper- recycling, pay bill file ( which are all paid at the same date every month-most of our bills are electronic now), a monthly file folder for things like tickets, and various file folders for renovation ideas, recipes , receipts etc.

yup, I switched to paperless bills and just download the statements, then scan anything else. I keep only a few important docs in small draw.

We shred anything important and then we have organizers in a cabinet with our important documents and we arrange them by type (car, taxes, etc.)
