Interesting system! I just keep a list of dinners that we like on the refrigerator, and we pick from that list and then get some accompanying sides that we just always eat with that particular dish. If we get bored, I pop over to Pinterest and try something new – if that’s good, we add it to the delicious list and keep it running.

I just plan out the meals for the week before making a shopping list. I try to make sure there’s isn’t too much red meat or too many carb-centric (like pasta) dinners, but otherwise, I just pick out whatever sounds good at the time!

I open the fridge, look inside, and go out to dinner.

Just joking! I don’t usually “plan” anything, I buy stuff and I cook what I want to eat that day/night. So if I have broccoli and potatoes and green beans and rice in the cupbard… then it depends on what I am in the mood for…. do I want potatoes or rice? That’s as far as I go with “planning”.

I usually shop for groceries after work and cook what I buy… I used to try to meal plan and grocery shop for it but by Wednesday; what sounded good on Sunday no longer appealed to me so I had a lot of wasted groceries. Plus our friends are super spontaneous in getting together for dinners. I usually cook to try a new recipe or cook to satisfy a craving… hence we’ve had full fledged 3 course steak meals cooked on a random Thursday!

We plan for the week too and then try to buy mostly just what we need for the meals we have planned. We’ve been pretty successful so far. And it definitely helps us cut back on eating out.

I like your idea! Maybe I’ll try that because I hate meal planning. Generally I do make a list and we shop together every Sunday afternoon. I plan full meals for every day and do pretty well to stick to it generally. But it always takes forever so this is a great idea.

    My week goes like—

Sun – Dinner out, Buy groceries after (That way I don’t shop hungry)

Mon – Chicken Breast and ???? and veggies

Tues – Chicken Breast and ???? and veggies

Wed – Something Not Chicken and veggies

Thurs – Angel hair pasta with Classico’s Italian sausage sauce (it has ample meat in it) and veggies

Fri – Chicken Breast and ???? and veggies

Sat – Whatever’s left in the kitchen

We generally eat the same stuff every week but vary it with sides and spices.  One family pack of chicken breasts ($10) lasts the whole week ( I separate and freeze portions).  For the ????’s I buy some staple things (pastas, potatoes, some kind of starch).  It’s kind of hard to explain exactly how I do it.

I plan my meals with recipes online and from cookbooks / magazines. I usually pick 3-4 recipes and shop accordingly, making enough for lunch leftovers. Some nights we scrounge, some nights we go out, and other nights we’re with friends, so I never have to plan 7 meals. It’s really helped me cut down on waste since it’s just the two of us. I make sure to always have a stocked pantry, good things to drink, and plenty of fresh produce, but otherwise my meal planning has been a godsend!

I need to start planning my meals, especially since I would like to lose weight. Right now I grocery shop once a week (I live an hour from a decent grocery store) and I stock up on fresh veggies, fruits and meat at that time. Then I just make whatever. TBH, my fiance cooks way more than me. I’m a terrible cook. We eat out 1-2 times a week for dinner.

I usually look at the flyers on Sunday and plan based on what’s on sale and what’s in my cupboard/freezer.

My husband does shift work and were both pretty boring dinner eaters (protein, 2 veggies, No carbs after 2pm) So I usually cook a batch of chicken breast on Monday for the week which we pretty much eat either at dinner or lunch every day. The other days we get whatever protein is on sale and take leftovers for lunch With a salad, fruit and yogurt.

I use websites like MyRecipes.com or Skinnytaste.com and plan meals that sound good. Then I e-mail them to myself. From the recipes I picked, I make a grocery list.

We prepare a list of dishes that we are craving during the week and make sure at least 2-3 meals can be big batches that we cook on Sunday. We freeze those for the crazy busy nights.
