I’m not french, so I say it like the big building in NYC. Stacy on What Not To Wear always say am-peer and it really bugs me.

both pronunciations are correct and acceptable.

Since the style started in post Revolution France you often hear the French pronunciation – matter of personal preference

@Miss LusterDust: The French pronunciation is a little too high-brow for this Jersey girl. But it’s a totally acceptable/proper prounuciation – it just makes me feel like a ding dong when I try to say it. Like vase vs. vaahse.

Eww I hate when people call it “Ahm-peer.”  I’m an empire girl all the way haha.

    I say ahmp-PEER.  I don’t blink when I hear either.

@PinkPandaBear: I say VAHSE and I am a city girl.  Everytime I try to say VAYSE, I cannot get it out without sounding like a dope lol!

Empire for sure. Stacey London says it strangely, plus she singularizes everything: she calls jeans “a jean”, pants “a pant” and shorts “a short”. Which is just weird.

ahm-peer — that’s how I learned it. Lately I get strange looks… then I tell people they are silly little peons and can’t even pronounce a simple word. LOL just kidding!!!

@Gingersnap: I don’t like when she does that either!  I think it just annoys me because I have a friend/coworker that does that and thinks she’s our building’s very own Stacy London.

@tntrav44: Everything she says “A nice dark-wash jean” I want to jump through the tv, grab her by the shoulders and shake her while screaming “THEY’RE CALLED JEANS!!!”.
