I say it with the z sound because all the Leslie’s I know pronounce it that way themselves.  ๐Ÿ™‚

When I’m lazy I say Lezlee but if I’m with someone I know named leslie i’ll pronouce it correctly. I have a friend named Josie and it drives me (and her) crazy when people say Jozie.

I do it with the Z, I think you guys should ask the Leslie in your life how they prefer you pronounce it.

For a man named Leslie, I pronounce it with an S sound. Because men I know are usually nicknamed Les, nobody I know calls them Lez.

For a girl named Leslie, I pronounce it with a Z sound. Idk…sounds more feminine to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

I say it both ways. I work at a school with a large latino population and they “leslies” I have there I always pronounce with “s”. I have pronounced “z” for others though if I know that’s how they pronounce it.

I think it depends on the owner of the name and how they say it.  I have heard it both ways.  And I have seen a name spelled Lezlee!

@mayahpay:  Well both of my Grandfathers both were named Leslie, so I know more men with it as their name. I have known only 1 girl Leslie, at least that I have met in person. I think it works well for either though. ๐Ÿ™‚

ETA : My Great Grandfather Leslie (mothers side) and my late Grandfather Leslie (on my fathers side) both have a very heavy Scottish origin to their families, and from what I have seen online it looks like it is a name that originated in Scottish/Gaelic maybe so that makes sense.

I knew a Leslie who hated hearing Lez-lie so I don’t say it like that anymore.

I’ve always pronounced it Lez-lee and have never heard it pronounced Les-lee.

I pronounce it Les-lee. I agree with asking the person directly how they prefer it to be pronounced. My former coworker hated! to be called Lez-lee. She found it annoying and lazy for people to say it that way. This sounds bad, but I’d probably dislike to be called Lez, too. So I always say Les-lie unless I hear the person refer to themselves as Lez-lie.
