I seem to have a trouble with organization and since WE JUST BOUGHT A HOUSE (YAYYY!!) :), I need to get organized now more than ever!
This is a 1500 sq. ft house and there is absolutely NO wasted space so I’ve got to make the best out of what I’ve got. I always seem to have trouble with clothes and folding them or putting them back on the hanger instead of on the floor like I always do. But we just went out & bought 2 clothes hampers so I’m hoping that’ll help. And I always have trouble with little things around the house like bills, notebooks, shoes, etc. I need to make a sign that says “EVERYTHING HAS A PLACE” and put it in my house so that HOPEFULLY it’ll help me be more organized! And I just feel so much better when everything has a place rather than when it’s scattered everywhere.
So how do you stay organized? Do you have any tips anyone gave you that worked? Or any that you’ve tried and it’s worked like a charm? Please help!!

Didn’t know you were buying a house, congrats! I’m really bad with laziness about putting clothes away too! Usually stuff stays in the basket for days because I don’t want to put it away.

Thank you mam! I didn’t know I was either..haha! It just happened so fast 🙂 I’m bad about that too…I NEED to get better. I guess what you have to do is put your mind to it & it’ll happen…but organization tools like binders, drawers & things like that…and files too will help. I just have a bad habit of not knowing where everything goes.

We have given up storing a lot of paper files. A lot of our important documents like tax returns are all on our computers now. That cuts down on a lot of storage space in the file cabinet and is safer to me than having my SSN sitting around the house.

Check out places like better homes and gardens website. They have endless organization ideas. I too have problems with this 😉 You are not alone. My hubby is always complaining about my lack of putting my laundry away 🙁 I just have so much to do all the time it’s hard to keep up and laundry usually comes last (as far as putting it away).

CONGRATS ON THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!! so excited for you 🙂 and a little bit jealous too! hehe
Here are a few things I have done to help myself organize our space (I should also mention I am CRAZY organized and it can’t be helped haha but this is just some basic and the most useful)
-I bought a filing cabinet (a pretty 2 drawer wooden one) and hanging files and made folders for; bills due, bills paid, phone contracts, car insurance, renters insurance, health insurance, important papers, etc etc
-I bought those plastic drawer/bin things for the walk in closet and use them to store make up, hair stuff, nail stuff, and all of my accesories (purses/clutches, scarfs) and you can use them under the sink in your bathroom if you need more space there
-I have a small thing by the door for mail that needs to be sent out (it a cute little wooden thing that also has a mirror…it is from Target I think)

I’m a super organizer, I can’t concentrate unless everything is in its place! My organization is similar to Sulli:
- I have a filing box (pretty one from Target) that contains important hard copies (loan information, receipts for $$ items, school info, etc.).
- School papers, etc. go in a 3-ring binder when I no longer need them (throw it out at the end of the semester).
- All my crafting type things go into different size plastic bins in the closet.
- I bought drawer organizers for my bathroom/bedroom for all my cosmetics and hair things.
- Random items (like dog toys, etc.) go into a shelving unit like this with these bins.
- I put a calendar white board on the fridge w/days that bills are due. Underneath I hang a wire bin that holds the bills (it worked well when I had a roommate).
- I update my iCal (I know a lot of people who like google calendar) with my schedule every month, including dates of bills that are due.
Finally, every morning I set aside 15 minutes to clean up. I make my bed, but all my clothes in the hamper, clean off my desk, etc. It helps to do a little work everyday instead of a lot of work on one day 🙂

Oh my gosh! 1500 square feet is huge, girl! Almost 1000 more than we have. 🙂
So maybe we have to maximize space a bit more, but we have some common sense tricks. Our desk has a filing cabinet as one leg, so we store all of our papers, etc, in there. (It’s the Bedford desk by Pottery Barn.) We bought cheapo cedar shelves at Target to maximize our closet space since we don’t currently have room for a dresser. We don’t have much cabinet space, so we bought a little kitchen cart that is awesome because it doubles as counter space – we have literally about three feet otherwise, maybe less.
Honestly, keeping things de-cluttered is the biggest help. Everything has a place – we pile toilet paper and other bathroom things under the bathroom sink, kitty litter and cleaning supplies go in the hall closet. Those are the only three closets we have. Good luck!

@lilyfaith- I hear you on tiny houses. My campus house is about 500 sq ft.
I basically live in my bedroom at my house, since I have a roommate. I know that my key to keeping on top of things is the same as lilyfaith. I always have to be on top of keeping the clutter to a minimum. I have a ton of stackable/customizable shelving in my closet that helps a lot. I have a multi-compartment hamper that helps sort my laundry as it gets dirty. I LOVE my under-the-bed bins. They are so helpful for storing items I don’t use as much.
This is going to sound like a cliche, but my secret is just the old saying “a place for everything and everything in its place”.
