  • poll: How do you work out? Choose what you do most often.

    Swimming (outside of a gym), playing tennis, volleyball, rollerblading etc.

    I go to the gym.

    I follow videos online, on DVD, etc.

    I use exercises at home that I tore from a magazine.

    I run/walk/jog outside or at home.

    I use machines/weights etc at home.

    I go to fitness classes or yoga classes.

    Other.

    I don’t really work out much…I never really enjoyed it. I have a ThighMaster and AbSlide that I use once in a while and they seem to do the trick 🙂

    I use my cross trainer and weights at home. I used to go to a gym, but I find I exercise more often and for longer, when I do it at home.

    I have mandatory PT 3 times a week and I do bikram yoga.

    For PT we’re usually outside running or playing sports.

    I go to the gym 4 days a week. The other two days I take a class taught by a lady that rents out space at a nearby church.

    We have a running/biking trail less than 1/2 a mile from our house, so DH and I go walking when the weather’s nice. We are going to buy bikes and begin using the trail a lot more often. I also plan on working out at home, because I don’t like going to the gym or going outside to work out.

    I really need to step it up, though, because it’s been a while since I’ve done any real strenuous exercise.

    I belong to a boutique gym – its only women and only offers classes. Each class only has about 8-10 people in it, so it feels very personal and I ALWAYS get a great workout. I used to just to go the gym myself and do cardio and strength training, but sometimes left feeling like it I wasn’t doing everything I could. I usually do 1-2 classes a day, 6 days a week.

    Flirty Girl Fitness in Toronto! It’s the best, I go about 5 times per week. So many fun classes, I love it. They are also in Chicago if you want to check them out.

    Most of my exercise comes in two forms: either vigorous cleaning episodes than can span several hours and involve lots of carrying heavy buckets of water or laundry, scrubbing, and generally running around the house like a maniac, or trying to wear out my two very high-energy dogs.

     

    The favorite way of wearing out the dogs is to take them for walks or, better yet, hikes with a lot of inclines. They also love to play keepaway with their toys in the back yard, which I do several times a day usually (a lot of running after dogs, then running away from dogs, and tug-of-war).

     

    I’ll occasionally supplement that with at-home exercises, like wall sits, squats, crunches, stretching, using resistance bands, and Wii sports (esp. boxing and tennis). DH and I have also done P90X together, but we use it sporadically because DH has heart problems and can’t always get through the routines because his blood pressure goes through the roof.

    I do a variety to keep myself interested and to encourage muscle confusion.

    I usually default to the gym, especially during the week.  I tend to stick to 30 minutes of cardio followed by 45 minutes of weight lifting.

    I also take classes occationally to add some variety into my workouts and to learn more.

    I have a few work out videos I use when I’m short on time or it’s bad weather (snow is a big one).  Those are boot camp videos.

    During the weekends, I usually try to mix in outdoor excerise: hiking, kayaking, knee boarding, running, volleyball, swimming, etc.  This is very dependent on good weather.

    It has worked well for me so far.

    I jog three times a week and then alternate doing weights and pilates. I also walk for 20 minutes each day during my lunch break.

    I mostly do at-home DVD’s, but I also have an elliptical at my house that I use about 4-5 days/week.  I also subscribe to Self, which has new workouts every month and does a really good job explaining them–unlike Cosmo, which I also subscribe to and has a Tracy Anderson workout section where I don’t understand the descriptions most of the time.  I just bought a Living Social deal for some “stripperobics” classes so my workout buddy and I are going to check it out this weekend!

    I use my hand weights and Kinect, along with Stepmania for home workouts. Now that the weather is getting nice, I’m going to start walking more around my neighborhood as well.

    I also use bodyrock.tv when I’m really in the mood for a sweat 🙂
