@abirdword: yours is my favorite story–cutest thing ever. : )
I voted “no,” because it was not what I expected…but that is because with my Fiance, I never know what to expect. It wasn’t overly romantic, but it was cute and sweet all the same.
I love the zoo and have always loved the zoo. I had been begging to go on a date to the zoo for years and we never seemed to make it happen. So, for our five year anniversary, I put my foot down-we were going to the zoo, dammit! Then we could do whatever he wanted the rest of the day, but I wanted to see the freaking elephants. Anyway, he allowed this request. I thought it was weird when we got there that he commented, “Wow…there a lot of people here today…” Yes, dear. It is summer-kids and families like the zoo. We get in and almost immediately I am realizing that perhaps my love of the zoo was more nostalgic than anything. It was June and in OK it was hitting the 100s –none of the animals were really out. There were crazy kids screaming everywhere and running around. There is a pretty lake area at the zoo, though, and Fiance and I decided we needed a snack before we started conquering the exhibits. He walked to the concession and bought us a lemonade and a pretzel and we found a secluded picnic area that used to be a bear exhibit (so it had some foliage and wasn’t just a random picnic table off the side of the the path) facing the lake view. We sat down and watched the people passing, joking about the silly things we saw happen (or the fanny packs, on occasion). I was looking out at the lake just enjoying the sights, when I noticed Fiance fumbling around in his wallet in my periphery– my internal thought processes are hilarious in hindsight. I was thinking: “what the hell is he doing? Is he getting change out? We already paid…” I turn to look at him with this weird, judgmental look on my face as he slid off the bench to get on one knee. I was shocked. He had a beautiful ring. “Will you marry me?” I still had pretzel in my mouth so it took me a second to spit out “Of course” and then give him a big kiss. I couldn’t stop smiling.
My favorite part was him telling him how he kept trying to find the right time to do it and figured he just better get “off his ass” and do it already. haha he said he thought about putting it on the lemonade straw, but feared it would fall in and I wouldn’t see it or something crazy. Then he said he thought about taking me out to dinner but thought it was too overdone. So, I think he wishes he did something a little more “showy,” but I am glad he did it the way he did. it was sweet and I was happy that it was a little more private.

@abirdword: That is SOOO cute/romantic/wonderful!! He gets major Fiance props!!
My Fiance proposed 2 days after I arrived back home in the US after a 3-month medical mission to Ghana. He took two days off work and we spent the long weekend doing lots of fun things together as “welcome back” celebrations. One of those things was going to a fancy dinner at the Marine Room in La Jolla. They have a huge window that is right on the sand of the beach, and we sat at a window table as the sun set over the ocean. It was really romantic, especially since he asked me out on that same beach, and since we hadn’t seen each other in 3 months!! We finished dinner, and took a walk on the beach until he stopped me, turned me toward the ocean, and told me to close my eyes. When I turned back around, a dozen of our family and friends were standing behind us in a semicircle, holding candle luminaries. Some of them even travelled from hours away to be there. Then Fiance dropped to one knee and took the ring out of this lantern that he decorated, and asked me to marry him. I was bawling so badly! Still crying and in shock, I hugged and greeted everyone there, we took pictures, and went back to his parent’s place, where luminaries lined the walk up to the house, and where they had set up a reception with lots of delicious finger food. A lot more friends and neighbors were there waiting for us. We celebrated and everyone gawked at the ring! Perfect welcome home from Africa. 🙂
Here we are at the Marine Room

My fiance took me on a holiday to hamilton island for my b’day. I was hoping he might propose, but was trying not to get my hopes up incase he didn’t. We went scuba diving on the great barrier reef, but no proposal. Then on my birthday we went for a walk on the beach, he asked me to close my eyes and wrote something in the sand. I could feel this overwhelming excitement building up, but when I opened my eyes, he’d written ‘i love you’ in the sand. Sweet, but not what i’d expected. The next day we went to whitehaven beach, which was beautiful, but again, no proposal. I started to get disheartened and I was sure that if he was going to he would have done it. The next day we went for a hike up to this beautiful lookout, where we could see the beach and a few small islands. I started to get my hopes up again, but quickly shut them down. Then he said he needed to pee, so went over to a bush and when he came back he hugged me and then proposed. He had only gone to the bushes so that he could get the ring out and he had even thought to bring some tissues in case I started crying (which I did). After he proposed, he said he had wanted to propose on the beach, but as it was dark he had thought I might not be able to see. He had then planned to propose on whitehaven beach but his little sister was born that day! It was such a romantic proposal, I can’t believe that he proposed that way, so much planning and effort went into it, he’d been planning it for 5 months! If I knew how to upload a pic, I would put one up. Before he proposed I snapped a couple of the look out because it was so pretty.

My Fiance and I were going to a work dinner to celebrate his recent promotion (or so I thought). Just as we were about to leave his apartment, he told me he had gotten me a present. He sat me down in the dining room and I opened a custom photo album he had made with pictures from the last year and a half of our relationship. I flipped through pics with friends, family, even my dog!, and a surplus of inside jokes that made me laugh through the entire book. The last page described how much I meant to him and said that he wanted to do something to show me how much he cared about me. The last page also contained a hand-made “coupon” for one free magic trick that I was to redeem immediately. I gave him the coupon and he said I could either see the magic trick with or without music. Of course, I picked the music option. We walked over to his ipod and the music started. He took the coupon, crumpled it into a ball, and as the music played, the ball started floating above his hand. He had me using my pointer finger to keep the ball in motion and I watched it spiral through the air. I was quickly distracted though and almost botched the entire trick because I heard “I think I want to marry you” playing from the speakers. I immediately started tearing up and as the song finished, he uncrumpled the coupon, formed it into the shape of a ring, and with a quick flash from a lighter, the paper ring turned into a ball of fire and magically my actual engagement ring appeared in the palm of his hand. He got down and on knee and proposed! Best magic trick EVER. He told me that the work dinner was just a ploy and we were actually going to dinner with my parents (who drove in from 6 hrs away). We had an hour to kill so he suggested we drink some champagne on his rooftop and call all of our friends to share our big news. When we walked out his front door all of his family and all of my family were there waiting to celebrate with us. I was moved to tears and couldn’t have imagined a more thoughtful proposal. We sipped champagne, had a delicious steak dinner, and are getting married next January.

My fiance and I had been dating for 2 years and it had been something we talked about. Last year he bought a house about 2 months after one evening we were spending time outside. It had been a busy weekend and I had been working on a paper the entire time. I had not moved in yet and I had told him before I did I was really hoping we’d be engaged. Well that night he got down on one knee, out of the blue and proposed! I found out he actually had the ring for a while and was waiting for the right moment. He had actually thought about doing it a week later at his birthday party however couldn’t wait any longer : )

- Wedding: June 2013 - Country Club
My Fiance was super sweet when he proposed.
We were on our way to go grocery shopping, and Fiance pointed towards the old dorm and said, “That’s where we had our first kiss.” As I was driving, I just nodded and said, “Yup, wanna stop and kiss again?” He said that he would rather wait until we were done grocery shopping, which makes sense now. Who wants to pop into the grocery store after just becoming engaged?!
So, there we are, heading to the front porch of the dorm. Fiance saw that there was a girl sitting on the front porch, so he grabbed my hand and we headed around to the back courtyard…..where another ten people were sitting. Darn kids, kept ruining his chances! So, we start to head back to the car, when Fiance got down on one knee, and said, “I wanted to do this where we had our first kiss, but I just want you to know that I love you. Will you marry me?”
And instead of how a normal person would respond, I keep repeating, “Are you serious? Are you being serious right now?” which, he was, so I said, “YES.” and now we’re engaged (3 weeks later! haha)

I love my engagement story and I’ll tell it as many times as possible, lol! For starters, for my birthday last year my Fiance gave me a trip to Disney World – our favorite place! The trip was for October AND we would be there for our 4 year anniversary. He had told me he made reservations for Tony’s which is the restaurant from The Lady and the Tramp. On the day of our anniversary, we wore our pins that said “Happy Anniversary” and spent the day in Magic Kingdom. About halfway through our day we went back to the hotel to shower and get changed for a nice dinner. We got back to the Magic Kingdom early and went on his favorite ride before heading to dinner. While we were walking, he said we’re actually not eating at Tony’s. . . we’re going to eat inside of Cinderella’s Castle – happy anniversary! I was SO excited. I had always wanted to eat inside the castle! When we first walked in we had our picture taken with Cinderella. We were led up a winding staircase to a table for 2 next to a window looking out into the Magic Kingdom. I probably had the biggest smile on my face the entire time. Belle, Aurora, Ariel, and Snow White came around for pictures. We had an appetizer, dinner, and then the waitress took our order for dessert. When she came back, she had a covered tray and said she had a “special” dessert for me. When she lifted the cover, there was a glass slipper holding a princess cut diamond ring sitting on a bed of rose petals. I was shocked. I look to my left and my Fiance is down on one knee. He said “Kristen, I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” I was so shocked and overwhelmed that I couldn’t speak, but managed to wildly shake my head YES! and threw my arms around him. He slipped the ring on my finger and it was perfect. They then brought our real dessert which was a white chocolate glass slipper filled with chocolate mousse sitting on a bed of cake surrounded by fresh berries with “happily ever after” written on the plate in chocolate. They brought us 2 glasses of sparkling cider (no alcohol in magic kingdom) and 2 pins that said “just engaged” that we wore for the remainder of our trip. It was then that I realized there was a photographer snapping away capturing every moment. It was magical and I’m so happy I found my prince charming! =)

@Aicyla22: Awww, what a super sweet story! I love it! I love that you had no idea it was coming either, and that you have a place to go back and remember it by 🙂
I also know what you mean about being bratty right before it! I was so stank when my husband started hooking up the speakers to show me “the video [he was] working on.” I was like “You don’t have to put it on the speakers – just show me!” I thought it was just something for the tech blog he used to write for – I had no idea it was going to be a proposal video!!!
But that is what it was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgK3cm4miiY&list=FLwVkc66a1uOCVEkMCRVzp8g&feature=mh_lolz
He did the whole thing without me knowing, getting my friends, his friends, and my did and adorable niece and nephew involved! I was completely sobbing with happiness by the end of it 🙂
Oh my goodness, I LOVE your story! So sweet and unique, and just adorable 🙂
Aww, I love the spontaneity, and how he couldn’t wait 😀
So sweet! Congrats 🙂

@FutureMrsRabo: Ok, you win. My favorite proposal story yet!!! 🙂

Fiance proposed to me on Christmas morning 2011. He came home from work and he, the kids and I all opened our Christmas presents. When we were finished he sent my daughter upstairs for a gift he had forgotten to give me. It was a beautiful photo album. In it were pictures from all the fun times he and I, and the kids, had shared. There were also pictures from all our ‘special’ places. The McDonalds where we first met and had lunch (we had met online and decided to have our first meeting in a public place), the parking lot at the mall where we had our first kiss, trips, baseball games, pumpkin picking…all the while i’m looking thru the album my daughter kept taking my picture and I was VERY confused. (now I’m so glad she was taking pictures) When I got to the last page of the album, Fiance had written that there was some thing that we had yet to do…and when i turned the page there was a picture of him, holding an engagement ring. He then got down on one knee, and proposed to me. It was a beautiful moment. I was crying, the kids were all crying…I later found out that he had sat down with each of the kids and talked to them, made sure they were ok with him proposing to me. They were all 110% supportive!
Now the story with the ring, that April we had been looking at rings and we found one that I feel in LOVE with. When i would go to the mall, i’d visit the jeweler just to see the ring. One day in sept i had stopped in and didn’t see the ring. the clerk knew me by then so I asked her about it and she check. She came back and said the ring had been discontinued!!! i called Fiance (then BF) in tears. I was devistated. I spent months after that looking at other rings, knowing at some point that a proposal would come and wanting just the right ring. in the meantime, unknown to me Fiance had contacted the jewelers corporate office and had been able to get the very LAST ring before they were destroyed!!! They shipped it to our local store, again i had no idea…so for months I moaned that i’d never find another ring I’d love so much, insisted I didn’t even want to get engaged unless i had THAT ring LOL and he had been able to get it and had it the whole time. What a suprise to get proposed to on Christmas AND have my dream ring!!
Pardon me being a mess, it was christmas morning and it was dreadfully early LOL

He proposed at the zoo where we had our first date. He was so nervous and he completely forgot what he was going to say. I thought it was really sweet 🙂

HAHA I was kinda being a bitch during my proposal too! Here’s our awesome story 🙂
Technically it’s the second proposal but I like to count it as our first because he didn’t have the ring and we weren’t announcing it but the way he gave me the ring was so sweet I loved it even more then when he proposed because I was expecting it the first time. So he told me ordered my ring (which I had never seen before) th friday before and said it would take at least 2 weeks to get here. I told him once 2 weeks were up I was gonna be on edge and expecting it everyday (i know I’m bad but he gets me). The next wednesday he told me were going to Texas Roadhouse the next day to see his friend who is a server there. It kind of caught me off guard because we just go there for special occasions and why can’t we just hang out with her? But I went with it because they are weird lol. We get all the way through dinner and I am stuffed, like ready to explode stuffed. He was like do you want cheesecake? I said no, I’m full and we never get dessert and he said just get it and then friend was like you want dessert. My proposal radar started to beeb but this couldn’t be it! Well fine if you want to force me then ok, she brings it out and no ring (so I knew my radar was off and needed to stop being crazy) so I started to stuff my face (it was damn good cheesecake) As I’m forcing down this amazing cheesecake, I kept telling him “I hate you, I’m gonna explode, I can’t believe your forcing me to eat my favorite dessert!” lol Well after I went through all of those I once again said “I hate you” then he pulled out the damn ring and was all smiley and said “do you hate me know?” ugh i busted out crying 🙂 I was full, annoyed and so damn happy lol All I could say was “I hate you” through all the tears (there was a lot of hate during my proposal lol) Well then his friend starts cracking up and they explained how they tricked me and I was so mad! but like a happy, I can’t believe you fooled me kinda mad. He had bought the ring in the store the Tuesday before he told me he ordered it! I’m really happy I didn’t have to wait 2 weeks and that he went through so much planning to surpise me because he knew I would think everything that wasn’t normal day to day would put my proposal radar off the chart! lol writing it all out makes me think it was really weird but it was so us and I wouldn’t have had any other way 🙂 So here is a picture of my lovely ring, he did a great job picking it and planning all that out in a way that I was not expecting it at all!

It was my dream proposal, almost literally. The one proposal story/idea I DIDN’T tell my Fiance before he proposed was my dream proposal. If he did it I wanted it to be because he came up with it on his own rather than me giving him the idea. My dream proposal was during a sunset walk on the beach on our anniversary, with hardly anyone around. Guess what his plan was? Exactly that. But when we went on that sunset walk, it was cloudy, and there were heaps of people around, mainly families. So he didn’t do it then, after dinner we went for a walk again, the clouds were gone, the stars were out, and no one was on the beach besides us 🙂 We walked a little ways before he stopped me and proposed, bended knee and everything 🙂 I guessed the date ahead of time, so I knew it was coming, but I still teared up and got very excited, it was perfect 🙂

After 7 months of dating we narrowly escaped a bad car accident. He turned to me and said “Marry Me.” I said “What?! Ask me when you’re serious.” He said, “I am being serious. Right here, right now. Will you marry me?” I said, “Of course!” 6 years of being together and 4.5 years of marriage later we are still as in love as ever — the mushy kind too. 🙂

I was proposed to on top of a mountain! It was an out of this world proposal!
H and I went for some spring skiing late May 2011. It was a big snow year. I was getting pretty hungry and he hadn’t reached the ridge yet, so I had my snack in some trees. H went on ahead to “scope out an efficient route up” (backcountry means you are skiing uphill). This was not uncommong of him. Backcountry skiing requires some route finding, plus he has 10x more energy than I do. I came out of the woods and he told me to take his switchbacks up.
At each turn he wrote in the snow using his ski pole “SIENNA… WILL…. YOU…. MARRY…. ME?” I could see him at the ridge, and i’m trying to get up there as fast as I can. I’m giddy, I’m crying, I’m so happy! He took photos of me coming uphill.
Me after some banshee-like crying
We did some self portraits (later became holiday 2011 cards!)
My ring with the ridge in the background
You can see our Proposal Point from our kitchen window – kick ass!
And we got married August 28, 2012 – in the mountain which is very us.
