    My Ring:

My mom’s ring is a yellow gold about 1 carat round cut sollitare.

So I’d say they are somewhere in the middle not the same but not completely different.

My mom and I have completely different rings. Her ring has a emerald cut diamond as a center stone and two diamond baguettes on either side, set in platinum totalling about 2 carats. My engagement ring is natural, unheated violet sapphire solitaire in cathedral setting with channel set diamond side stones in 18k white gold totalling about 1 carat.

Kind of similar.. My mama’s was a 1 ct brilliant cut stone, in a yellow gold tiffany style setting..( She has since been upgraded to 2ct brillaint center with a carat in side stones!)

Mine is a white gold tiffany setting 1 ct princess cut, that I have added a wrap to since 🙂

My mom didn’t have an engagement ring.  She has bought a few “engagement rings” throughout the years. When I showed her my ring, she said “it’s ok” and “doesn’t sparkle enough”. :

I have a 1.06ct asscher solitaire in a white gold tiffany style setting.

My mom has a .75ct (total guess) round in a yellow gold tiffany style setting.

Not my mom’s ring but similar.

My mothers looked very similair to so: yellow gold, round solitaire. Except the wedding band had a matching small diamond.

(my parents divorced a few years back, the diamond was removed fromt he setting and turned into a pendant for me that my mother will give to me on my wedding day as a family heirlom. She gave me the option of taking her ring or having it turned into a pendant and it was more meaningful to have the stone from her as a pendant, as i would never wear her ring as is)

My ring is white gold with a blue sapphire diamond halo. Very different than my mothers. sorry for giant photo.

When I showed my e-ring to my dad, he made the comment that it looked just like my mom’s.  Well, mom and I both have emerald cut stones, but her’s is a 1/3 ct. solitaire and mine is three stone ring just over 1 ct.

    Mom’s ring:

    My ring:

Now, in my dad’s defence, mom hasn’t been able to wear her rings and they’ve been locked in the safe for probably 20 years, so it’s been a while since he’s seen them. But I love that he noticed we had the same stone shape.

When I was growing up, I didn’t think I’d want anything like my mom’s ring. But when I worked in the jewelry store, I found that I was most drawn to the emerald cut rings. Every time one came in, I was trying it on. When the one came in that’s similar to mine, I knew it was the only ring I would ever want.

Very different! My moms original engagement ring was a solitaire yellow gold with a teeeeeny tiiiiiny almost not even visible diamond. Then when my grandma passed away she got her Ering which is a perfectly flawless 6 prong 1.1 ct. solitaire in yellow gold. It is the most amazing diamond i have ever seen. Mine is a .75 ct oval asha with a pave band. She always tells me that my ring is “too busy”.

They’re pretty different, mine is white gold and hers is yellow gold. My centre stone is also bigger and set higher. They’re similar in the sense that there are tiny sidestones along the band and a larger centre stone. Her rings are wider than mine though (:

Mine is somewhat similar, we both have yellow gold rings with a diamond, but hers is about a third of the size of mine and she also has a tiny diamond either side of the center diamond, whereas I have just the one center diamond.

The reason that I choose completely different is because my mom didn’t exactly have an engagement ring.  They just eloped one day.  My dad actually made her wedding band out of a quarter I think.  Mine is a 2.5 carat oval sapphire with white topaz around it.

Everything they say about being more like your parents than you want to when you get older is true!

My mom only has a simple gold band. No e-ring. I think hers is a 9 or 10 carat gold only.

I have a “classic” yellow gold solitaire  e-ring with a princess cut diamond. Along the lines of this:

    http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/gold-solitaire-rings.html

and a matching gold wedding band, but they’re pretty simple. I love ’em, but they’re classy and low key (vs. bold). My mom and I have pretty classic tastes in jewelry. Neither of us wears really big or heavy jewelry.

My yellow gold looks better than my mom’s rosy gold.

My sister, on the other hand, has a huge bling-y ring you can see from 10 miles away. A pave with a lot of sidestones. It’s pretty but not my taste. She can’t wear it 1/2 the time. Everytime she needs to rearrange something on a shelf she has to take it off.
