So, here I am, a little over 6 months to go, and I still do not have a dress. Long story short, my custom dress is to be no more.
Anyway, with David’s having one of their sales, I am thinking of going to the local one Mon or Tues and just buying off the rack. At this point, I am no longer concerned with the looks of the dress as actually having something to wear when we get married.
I have seen several posts in the last few days with brides, who still have a year or more, purchasing their dresses already and I know (for me) I would have MAJOR dress regret when it came time for the wedding, if I bought so early on. However, I also know (from shows like SYTTD & I remember the sales lady at David’s freaking when my SIL went in with less than 4 months) that they recommend that you purchase at least 6 months out.
Just wondering how many other bees push it close to the wedding? Or purchase way too early and wind up with regret?

I got both of my dresses SUPER early! I don’t plan on getting married until fall 2015! I picked two dresses that I like, and I know that I won’t have dress regret. I made a conscious decision to stop considering any other options and be content with what I have.
I knew that I wasn’t going to spend a lot on a dress that I will only have on for a few hours. I think ANY white dress would look good…especially with hair, makeup, and accessories. The dress was never a huge deal to me. I’m way more focused on other aspects of my wedding 🙂

I purchased mine October of last year for my August wedding. My situation was a little different from many. I fell in love with a dress that wasn’t out yet at the time (Spring 2014 collection), and I was scared that by the time stores get the sample, it would be too late for me to order the dress. I knew that’s my dress, and I’ll regret settling for another dress that I could actually try on, so I took a chance and bought my dress without ever seeing it in person.
Good luck with the DB sale, and I hope you find the dress for you. 🙂 I know many brides who found their dresses with less than 6 months to go. Each bride is different, so follow your guts and don’t mind the freaking consultants. If they hear a bride needing a dress in 6 months or less, many of them usually freak out or try to scare the brides.

Crazy earlier… Like 11 months early lol.

I got my dress 11 months ahead of time and it came in within 6 months. Places like BHLDN have dress ready to ship and you can get them within a few weeks. I wouldn’t stress too much especially if you could buy a sample.

Ordered in November for a September wedding. I’m so thankful I did it early because my dress came in February and was four inches too short. They ordered another and that one came in damaged. Third dress was the charm, but all that took an additional three months, so I didn’t get my final dress until May.

I ordered mine in June 2013 for my May 2014 wedding. Took nine months to arrive.

Ordered in October 2013 for my October 2014 wedding. It took a full 6 months to come in, so I am happy I ordered it early. I think once you find the one you should go for it, regardless of how early it is. Ihave zero regrets, still love my dress and can’t wait to do my fittings. I hope you find what you want and can get it in time!

Very early like 12 months before wedding date

A full year before my wedding. I am doing everything wedding-related this early though. That’s just how I am. Also, I have gone to almost every single bridal shop in town and I am sure this is the one! I’m not worried about regretting it later on.

I bought a dress about 2 years before the wedding. It did amazing things for my figure and was a bargain! I showed a photo to my BFF and although she agreed that my figure looked awesome, she thought the actual dress wasn’t very “me”. My normal style is quite vintage with lots of lace, pearls, YG delicate jewellery. Whereas the dress I had bought was a shiny satin, very stiff.
There was one dress I couldn’t get out of my mind. It was similar in shape to the one I had bought (strapless, fit & flare). But it was made from soft, draping chantily lace. I knew I had to try it on just to put my mind at ease. So I tried it on and I cried! It was the one. I ended up losing the deposit on my first dress but I’m so much happier with my choice now. This dress was bought 18 months before the wedding

I’m doing everything super early too. It makes me feel calmer knowing I’m ahead of schedule!

I ordered my dress at the end of feb 2014 for my November 2014 wedding. I picked it up last week. I made a choice not to look at any more dresses and love the one I have. funny enough I pinned so many dresses started at least a year ago. Didn’t look at it before looking at dresses so I could have an open mind. The one I picked was like the ones I pinned.
