I am in a slight pickle. I picked out my favorite Bridesmaid or Best Man dress and I just was advised that they are discontinuing them on June 30th. My wedding isn’t until May 2012. Would that be too soon to order the dresses? I have already started to work this style into the overall feel of my wedding and don’t like the prospect of having to start over or always comparing the next dress to the one that got discontinued.
I also don’t want them to feel like they have to buy them now because who knows if they will need alterations or not over the next year!
Help! How far in advance did you have your ladies purchase?

My wedding is in June, we ordered in October. It takes the dresses quite some time to come in anyways. I’m glad I ordered mine then, because mine we discontinued too!

I gave my BMs a deadline of March 31st to order their dress for my June 26th wedding. And they all got their dresses already! My Maid/Matron of Honor ordered her dress in January though because her style was being discontinued. I think asking them to order it 11 months out might be a bit too much. Show us the style and color we might be able to find you something similar

We will be ordering on June 25th for my September 25th wedding…three months ahead of time.

We’re ordering ours next month, so they’ll be ordered 9 months before the wedding. I’ve planned pretty much our entire wedding, so I’d rather just order them soon, so it’s one less thing I have to keep thinking about.
If you love them and won’t change your mind, I’d order them!

Can you buy the dresses now and just wait to have them altered until a few months before the wedding? That is, if you’re confident that none of your bridesmaids would have a HUGE weight loss/gain within a year that wouldn’t be able to be altered.

If you’re worried about getting them altered- are they stable at the weight they are now? Its the dress really fitted/would need to be altered at a slight weight change?
If you’re worried about money- pay up front and have the girls pay you back. I did this, I just had the girls pay me by the day the dress came in, which was in February, I think!

We ordered ours at about 4 months. My engagement is only 11 months long and even I started to regret some early purchases by the time I got a more full image of the wedding in my head. On the other hand, if you LOVE them that much and won’t change your mind, go ahead and order them. Beware of BMs getting pregnant though.

It is Belsoi L3020 so it is just below the knee and flowy and is strapless. The only alteration would be the bust and my aunt is a seamstress so i am sure if things needed to be put in or taken out she would be more than qualified to do that. I am just concerned that I am rushing things, but I know what I want and how our wedding is going to look so I figured just get everything done!
I offered to pay for all the dresses, but they have turned that down

@ItsPronounced_ABear: I had an “ah ha this is it moment” when I found these dresses just like my wedding dress so I highly doubt I am going to change my mind 🙂

A year out is way too early to order bridesmaid dresses given potential weight gain/loss or pregnancy.
ETA if they really are flowy and only fitted at the bust, nevermind.

for my wedding i had the girls order 5 months out. the ones we ordered take about 3 months to come in. i have been in two weddings where the brides decided 10 months to 14 months out and we ran into issues… the first wedding the dress was being discontinued (ann taylor) and sizes were limited. i ended up in a too small dress that couldn’t be taken out. awesome. and the second wedding the bride decided on gowns 14 months out, then all of us put on a few pounds and all needed new dresses. so just words of caution when ordering far in advance.

If you love them, get them. My BMs ordered their dresses in February.

mine was ordered 5 months before and they got them about 3 months before….the only problem with ordering so early is weight concerns. If your b. miads were to lose or gain weight would the dress be able to be altered? At the time she tried it on one of my bmaids dress fit perfectly…when it arrived it could not zip :S but she started exercising and within 2 weeks it was ok… something to think about
