My wedding is August 13, 2011, and I have found a dress I LOVE!! I’m looking to order it within the next few weeks. A girl I know said “Isn’t a little early to be ordering your dress?”. It will take around 14 weeks to get the dress back. It kind of aggravated me that she said it, she knows nothing about wedding planning. Anyway, I want to know how far in advance did you order your dress?

I voted 0-2 even though I technically ordered mine a year + out. I ordered mine in September from an Etsy seller and am getting it this November, so it WOULD have been a year and two months…but then we changed our date, so I’ll be getting it a month before our wedding.
I think you should wait a little longer if possible; you don’t want to have dress regret. But if you do order, be sure to STOP LOOKING. 😉

I ordered mine mid-sept for my July wedding. I should get it in around Jan sometime. I could have waited longer but loved it, so I bought it!

Cheers my wedding date is August 13 2011 aswell!!!!!!! Anyways, I didn’t even start looking yet and I’ve been engaged since April 2010…I guess I’m just making sure I still like my dress a year from now thats why I am waiting!

@OurWedding:Who is your dress made by? Depending on the designer, certain dresses take much longer to come in than others, so the designer has to be taken into consideration. From what I’ve heard, dresses from davids bridal usually come in within 2 months or less of being ordered in that case I would wait and purchase later. My dress is a Mori Lee and usually takes a bout 3-4 months to come in so I am ordering mine next week So i should receive it no later than february and still have plenty of time for alterations

I ordered my dress in September and my wedding is at the beginning of this April so almost 7 months early and it will be here in March (just in time!). I think 1 year to 6 months early is standard in order to have the dress arrive in time and have alterations done. Just remember to stop looking or you’ll cause yourself a whole lot of grief!

I ordered mine 8 months in advance. Apparently that is pretty typical, and any later might be cutting it too close in case it needs multiple fittings.
It doesn’t come in until 8 weeks before the wedding, so I’ve got a while to wait.

I ordered mine on May 1, 2010 for my May 28, 2011 wedding. I ordered it because my bridal store told me that it would take 6 months for it to come in. Guess what…. it came in a month later. I was mad because their policy is half down, then the rest of the payment is due within 30 days of the dress arriving in the store. So I paid off the dress and was expecting to take it home till it was time for alterations. The dress shop then informed me that I couldn’t take it home if I was going to have it altered there. I ended up taking it home and will now have it altered elsewhere. They never told me of theis policy when ordering the dress. Needless to say I didn’t feel comfortable leaving $1,000 in merchandise paid for in a salon full of wedding dresses!!!

I just ordered mine this weekend! About 10.5 months before my wedding date. I got it from Demetrios and it will take 5 months for it to come in, so I’ll get it in March.
I got engaged in July and started shopping in August, so it took me about 2 months to find my dress. I shopped at 2-3 places almost every other weekend and looked at a lot online before I finally found “the one”!

I ordered mine in September for our wedding next August. I’m sure I could have left it a little longer… but I found a great dress and I was happy to cross that off my list!!

@OurWedding: Ah, one of my BMs said that to me too! Like you, I had less than a year until my wedding as well. How annoying is that! And no, I don’t think it’s too early for you to order your dress. You don’t want to procrastinate something like that.

@tkvogel: Date twin!! I also got engaged in April 2010. Question – do people ever say things about you getting married on the 13th? A few people say it’s an unlucky day. I don’t pay it any attention but just wondering do you get that sometimes.
@bells: My dress is made by Alfred Angelo.
I want to make sure I have time for alterations and to have my bridals done around April
