I’m getting married in a little over a year at a venue where I have to bring in everything–tent (if we decide to use one), tables, chairs, china, flatware, linens etc. I know what rental company I’m going to use and met with their wedding person to see their selections and get an idea of pricing back in February. I was just wondering when I actually need to put a deposit down. I am getting married on a holiday weekend, so I don’t know if they’ll get booked up earlier than normal. I’d like to wait at least a few months though.
How far in advance did you put down a deposit?

I did mine about 6 months in advance. Do you need any items that they have in shorter supply? You can always reserve and put down a deposit on some stuff and then add more to your order later.
I started with a few things I definitely wanted I booked first and then added to my order.

If you have your venue and date and know you are absolutely going with this rental company, I don’t see any problems with doing it right now. I am considering renting chiavaris and was told I can secure pricing at time of booking versus a potentially higher price closer to my wedding (year+ from now). In my situation it isn’t needed, so I may wait 2-4 months before our wedding as I am undecided.
I think waiting a few months is fine. Definitely before 6 months mark if you’re worried about the holiday. It was recommended I order my max amount on chairs and then can always scale back my order when I finalize our guest list (versus under ordering and they may be in short supply if you wait too long)

- Wedding: September 2012 - Mother of the Bride's residence
We chcked in about pricing for ours last October or November, I think, but the rental guy told us that our wedding weekend wasn’t a busy one and we could wait until spring to actually book. We (well, my mom, because it’s in her town) finalized everything and put down the deposit a few weeks ago.

@MissTurtle27: I would book as early as possible. I’m not sure when graduations will happen in your area but you are right about that time, as am I. When we went in they told us that we were not only in prime graduation time but wedding time as well.
I believe we booked about 5 months prior, so you still have some time. We are also able to adjust what we have reserved up until two weeks before the wedding with no cost. So if we decide to go with less rentals the money from the deposit would be applied to the final total.

About 11 months in advance and paid a 50% deposit on the estimate, but we don’t need to give final numbers until much closer to the wedding date.
