I’m due at the beginning of April and my shower is at the beginning of February.  I guess I’m not sure what the ‘norm’ is, but I am thinking it might be nice to have everything we need and be able to set it up in the nursery before I’m as big as a beached whale.

i think it is always best to wait a little closer to the due date in the event of any problems with the pregnancy.

I’m due in July and my shower(s) will most likely be in May. My family usually holds them about 2 months out from baby day to avoid momma being too uncomfortable and just in case there is an early arrival. ๐Ÿ™‚ So I think your timing is just right!

I always thought it was jynxing things by having the baby shower before the baby arrivess(my whole familys like that). That being said I know its the norm to have it before, so id wait until alteast 4 weeks before. Anytime before seems too early, any time after you risk the mother going into labour early and having to wait until shes settled with baby back at home.

I had my first shower around 27 weeks. It was only held this early since my sister was moving to the other side of the country and wouldn’t be back anytime before baby would be born (she is also pregnant). My other was about 7 weeks before (ILs/Friends) and my last will be 4 weeks before (neighborhood one).

Honestly, I think I would prefer it be around 8-10 weeks before. I was still extremely comfortable for my first shower, and actually didn’t look all that pregnant – moreso do to the fact I hadn’t even gained weight at that point. The second was starting to get a little more uncomfortable and this third.. well we will see how I do.

I just had mine this weekend, and I’m 5 weeks from my due date.  I wasn’t terribly uncomfortable, during it, but by the end, I was pretty tired.  I probably wouldn’t want one much later than now…

I think May would be a good time.  I’ve been to plenty baby showers that were 2 months out…so I would think that is pretty average.

@pokie45:  I think May is def not too early. What if the child comes early? My friend had her baby two weeks before her baby shower, which was pegged for 6 weeks before the due date. The baby was at the baby shower! It was a disaster. He hated all the gifts and cried throughout ๐Ÿ˜‰

It usually is best to have a baby shower closer to the mother’s due date.  (though in my case since my little one decided to come early) the baby shower was after he was born

I’ll be 30 weeks at my shower this weekend; ~2 months out seems to be the norm in my circle.  I wouldn’t want to do it too much later than that in case baby comes early or I start getting too huge/uncomfortable.

@pokie45:  I thought it was customary to have it soon after the baby is born.

I hate to say it, but what if there’s problems during delivery etc.?

Just seems like it would jinx it!

i’m sure it might be different for every mama-to-be, but i would think any time after 36 weeks (1 month before due date), she might be very uncomfortable?

personally, i would want my shower around the 32-34 week mark (ie: 1.5-2 months before my due date) because having it earlier would let me see if there was anything else i needed to buy before baby arrived and get organized. any later than 34 weeks, there might be too much of a time crunch between the shower and when i deliver.

then again, the thought of going the full 40 weeks or longer is like a personal nightmare so my preferred timeline might be skewed. i would LOVE to give birth at 37-38 weeks and would do everything in my power to get baby moving along. =)

ETA: what about a compromise and hold it at the end of may/first week of june?

@pokie45:  May or June would be fine…… either way you can’t go wrong ๐Ÿ™‚ …. We are due on March 13th and the baby shower will be held on February 9th (the day before my birthday ๐Ÿ™‚

Good Luck!!!
