Etiquette actually says anything under a year is perfectly acceptable and The Knot recommends you send them out between 9-12 months out…So you’re totally fine! I sent mine out between 11-10 months before ours (took me a while to get them all out, haha)…Although one thing to consider is that the earlier you send them out, the more likely you’ll have a higher guest count at your wedding…So if you’re concerned about a high number of people attending, you might want to wait a little bit….

You’ll want to have your room blocks at the various lodgings all set before you send your STD cards out.   It will only frustrate your guests if the lodging sites don’t have you firm on their books.   Give a firm date that they must reserve by because you don’t want to be responsible for paying for any unused rooms.    As a courtesy, advise guests what modes of transportation are available from arrival cities or airports (cab, shuttles, bus, etc.)  to the various lodging sites.  And 10-12 months is advance is not unheard of.

I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for all the opinions. We’re getting married in my hometown in Florida and his family is from Michigan/New Jersey so I want to give everyone enough time to make arrangements. I’ll probably drop them in the mail in January 2010 to avoid the holiday mail.

I just got my STD’s in and I am at the moment addressing them to go out for my Sept. 2010 wedding bc it is labor day and I don’t want family to make vacation plans.  Hope this helps!!

We have an overseas destination wedding in Jan, sent the STD’s 14 months in advance (to avoid holiday mail) to enable our guests to arrange for time off/day care budgeting etc.  A few people did say 09? (not realizing it was a full year out.)

I’m thinking 10 months in advance for me… and then the invitations, maybe 5 months in advance (?)

I have heard 6-8 if you won’t have alot of travelers and 9-12 if you will be having more like a destination wedding. I am sending mine out at 9 for a destination but only bc my fi is in the army and deployed and  we need to take a few engagement pictures to put in. sooo I have to wait for him lol

I sent mine out in February-we’re not getting married til August 2010 🙂 Probably a little early, but I can always send stuff out again closer before the invites.
