My Boyfriend or Best Friend and I plan to invite several people from out of the country – mostly my friends in Japan (if one particular Japanese family can make it, I’d love for the mom to be a bridesmaid and her two daughters to be the flower girls), but we may invite a few people from the UK and Australia, too. I know that it will definitely require a pretty hefty financial commitment from some of them if they choose to come, especially ones that have families. They may need to save up. How early would you send out the STDs?
Note: I actually don’t expect most of them to come because I realize that it’s expensive. Of course, I would be thrilled if they were able to make it.

Once your date is 100% set (you confirmed with ceremony and reception site), I think it would be fine to send out Save-The-Date Cards 10 months early. Seeing that your date is in November, I think January would be fine. I sent mine out 6 months ahead of the date and I feel that I may have been on the late end of things…

At 7 months I feel I’m pushing it for my Norwegian relatives to come (but then they visited this past summer for my cousin’s wedding and didn’t expect me to get married this summer).
I would say once you have a date set, at the very least get in contact with them so they know they are invited.

@BlueChampagne: Eep! Thanks for reminding me about that date. It’s been moved to January 2012, so I definitely have plenty of time. I’m going to change it on here now…
I’d like to get in touch with them, but most of them don’t really do internet, so email and Skype is out. I think I would probably have to write a letter to most of them anyway.
