I am getting married October 17, and we don’t plan on taking a honeymoon until sometime in February 2015. I have started some research on where we think we want to go (my Fiance said that I can pick the place!), and know it’ll be somewhere in the Caribbean. Hello beaches and warmth to get away from the cold North Dakota winters.
He asked if I knew if we could still get a good deal if we booked sometime after we got married, since we’ll be paying for so much prior – and will have *hopefully* some money left by then. I told him maybe, but I read that some AI resorts have good deals in the summertime. We also think that speaking with a couple travel agents prior to making a decision is a good idea too… which we may do sometime this summer anyway.

There are tons of last minute deals! Hotels want to fill up and often turn to sites like Groupon to fill rooms, especially during the low season Fiance and I went to Canada and paid half price for the hotel, plus got food vouchers, because we planned only a few months in advance for early October.
Our honeymoon is nearly a year away, but we booked the hotel since they were running a 30% off deal and it’s fully refunable until 30 days before the trip, so we really had nothing to lose. We have not made any non-refundable payments yet though.

Now is a great time to book! A lot of the resorts have their fall and winter promos out now. Remember that winter is considered high season in the Caribbean and Mexico, as it’s freezing here! We have a wedding at the end of January in Cabo, and the hotel is already almost sold out. If youre planning on staying at a smaller, more intimate hotel, I would book sooner rather than later.

I had the same question and asked a few travel agencies- they all recommended for travel in January/February to the Caribbean/Mexico to book now. Yes, you might be able to get a better deal by waiting until a month or two before a different time of the year, but it’s a high travel time and a lot of resorts book up, and prices skyrocket that time of the year anyway. We’re going on our delayed Honeymoon in January and will likely be booking in a couple weeks (I’m keeping an eye on airfare right now and I think it’ll drop a little bit within the next week or so). We’re booking through beach bums and have loved the customer service so far- and we only have to pay around $400 down- the balance is due 45 days before the trip. We have the money in hand, but we’d rather keep it in the bank to earn interest on it.

Thanks for the information. I know we’d like to book at some point, but wanted to wait until closer to the wedding when we know we’ll have more funds available.
I’ll keep this in mind and mention it to my Fiance. It may make us decide on something sooner than later!
