Depends a lot on how far off your general size (height and proportions) are from standard sizes.

You should be able to get something from David’s Bridal in that timeline within that budget.

General bridal salons might try to charge you a rush fee, plus you have the alterations issue. A lot of dresses from bridal salons start off long enough for very tall people, and you have to alter that if you’re not. And it depends on the salon for price. Some bridal salons basically start at 2K. Others max at 2K.

I would check to see if you like any samples at a bridal salon that they would be willing to sell to you.  I found my dress which was a sample gown and was no longer being sold at the bridal shop for a steal and I think if you are open for something like that it is a good option.  So many samples are in perfect condition.  Another good thing besides price is that you won’t have to rush anything in – the dress is already there for you! My dress did not even look like it was a sample gown at all – I fell in LOVE.

wasabipea :  I got my dress at a consignment shop. If you google “Bridal Consignment” in your area you can probably find something near you.

There were at least 3 in the area near where I live.

I spent $300 on a NWT sample but was also looking at a brand new Maggie Sottero for $750

I’d take a look and see if you can find something along those lines. They often take unsold brand new samples from bridal salons, as well as gently used gowns from brides. Nothing I looked at even came close to being $1000 which also would leave you room for alterations.

I got my dress from Etsy in about 2 months for less than 600$ CAN! I would check out Etsy for sure, most shops have much much quicker timelines for dresses than bridal salons.

I did also go to 5 bridal salons before ordering off Etsy. All of them quoted a minimum 9 month timeline (before alterations) and there was nothing for less than 1000$, unless it was a sample sale.

I got my dress off the rack at DB for $500. It’s a corset back so it really only needs a little height alteration and a bustle. I’m not sure how much that’ll be. My first real fitting is Monday at a local seamstress so I’ll know more then. It wasn’t hard to find an “off the rack” at DB though. I’m 5′ 4″ and 160, so not a model for sure! If I was about 3 inches taller I wouldn’t have needed any alteration except the bustle.

I echo PPs, look at consignment shops. I found one about 15 minutes from the office and had a blast trying on dresses. In the end though, I found my dress on eBay keeping in mind the dresses and sizes of dresses from the shop. I also saw some cute dresses at thrift stores now that I’m looking, but none in my size.

Im still planning on going dress shopping though, it’s about the bonding experience and if I find a dress under $400 that I like better, I would buy it. It feels nice to know I have a dress I really like as a backup.

I went to Davids Bridal.  I ordered my dress on December 2, and it came in before Christmas.  I think that you may also be able to buy samples there (I had a friend do that, but I don’t know how common it is)

It’s too bad, because a lot of the stores I was looking at were having white sales over new year’s weekend. Maybe there will still be a few left in your size locally?

My dress was around $1200 – and I ordered it the second week in October – it’s already here. So you can get a dress if you shop now.

I went to David’s Bridal and got an off the rack dress a couple of months before the wedding.

I purchased my dress from Dillards and it was $258 and I did not need alterations. Best of luck on your search!

I googled off the rack wedding dresses in my town. Luckily, there is a store that does it like two blocks down the road. My dress was $500.

The store is Sunday’s Bridal in DFW Texas. They have their stock online and ship dresses as well.

After 5 and Weddings in Bozeman, MT extended their dress sale.  You might check with them… I know it’s long distance, but they might have something you like that they can just ship you.
