1st pregnancy- after 3 months we told family then friends and colleagues

2nd pregnancy- I didn’t even tell my husband till I was 5 months as I got sick of people talking about my pregnacy and offering unsoicited advice during the first pregnancy. It also made the pregnancy just whiz by.

The day I found out. On Facebook. I was 19 and didn’t quite understand how the world worked. If I get pregnant again, I’ll announce after the first trimester. A friend of mine who struggled with miscarriage announced when she found out the sex (20 weeks).

We told our close friends and parents and siblings when we got the positive test.  We announced on Facebook when I was 15 weeks.  Looking back, I think we should have waited until we saw the heartbeat before we told close friends.  I think we’d still tell parents and siblings right away.  I just had a girl at work lose her baby at 11 weeks, and some other people that were acquaintances had the same thing happen, so that’s why I would wait until later next time.  I would wait until at least after the NT Scan (at 12 weeks) before going completely public.

I think people say to wait until 12 weeks and that’s probably because of the miscarriages that are so likely in the first trimester.  I’m not pregnant, but I would probably wait a little while to tell my parents/close family first and then wait until 3 months to tell close friends and an annoucement on facebook would probably come once I know the gender.. although I would really like to have a gender reveal party because I don’t want a baby shower..

I told my husband a few hours after finding out.  We planned to wait until 10 weeks to tell immediate family, 14 weeks for family and close friends, and 16 weeks for Facebook.  I had to tell my family early at 7 weeks because my grandma fell ill all of a sudden and I wanted her to know before she passed away.  She found out just hours before.  We ended up telling my husbands family a little early at 9 weeks then, but the rest was on schedule.

Our immediate family we told on Christmas Eve. I was almost 9 weeks and we had our ultrasound a week prior. We told a few close friends after that.

I planned on waiting until 12 weeks to tell work, but I work as a nurse in an assisted living/long term care facility, and it was getting harder to make excuses to coworkers as to why I couldn’t help them lift patients. So I told my work at 10 weeks after we heard the heartbeat on Doppler.

I announced to facebook/the rest of the world a day shy of 12 weeks after I had my NT scan. ๐Ÿ™‚

P.s. it is true that most people wait until 12 weeks because that’s when the risk of miscarriage goes way down, however, if you have had an ultrasound prior or heard a healthy heartbeat on a doppler, the risk goes down to less than 5%. This is what I was told by my OB.

@Blondee:  yes that is true. I had 2 miscarriages both before 13 weeks.

With my first pregnancy we announced at 7weeks when we found out, I miscarried at 11week. With my 2nd pregnancy I only told my fi, I sadly miscarried again. Decided I couldn’t handle it anymore went to get on bc and found out I was pregnant again but was already 12weeks! We told everyone at 15 weeks after an ultrasound. Our dd is now about to be 4. Next time around we definitely won’t tell anyone until the 2nd trimester.

We told siblings/parents as soon as we found out; close friends around 8 weeks (after seeing heartbeat), and extended family/acquaintences/co-workers/etc around 14/15 weeks.  We posted on facebook at around 16 weeks.

At DH’s insistence, we told our parents within days of getting our BFP. We told friends, extended family and coworkers after the first trimester, around 13 weeks.

I told Darling Husband when I found out at less than 4 weeks, we told my parents, sister and SIL/BIL when I was about 5 weeks, and then Mother-In-Law & Father-In-Law when I was 8 weeks. We told everyone else (friends, extended family, work etc…) when we were 13 weeks.
