We had two options for a girl (one would be first and the other middle) before we got pregnant and decided on three options for a boy at about 6 weeks. The combined five names are the only names we could agree on for children but we love them all so much now we can’t choose. We’ve decided to wait until our little one is born, then we’ll make a final choice.

We discussed it on and off throughout my pregnancy and eventually settled on one boy & one girl name sometime after 30 weeks. We’ve just learned that we’re expecting our second child now and we have a first name for a girl picked out already (it was our second choice of girl’s name when our daughter was born), but that’s about it. We’ve had a much harder time with boy names and neither of us is completely convinced by the boy name we had picked out for the first time around, so we’ll probably come up with a different option this time around instead of using the one we had picked last time.

team green for both

#1, we decided on a boys names a couple weeks before i gave birth.  but couldn’t come up with a girls name.  i was admitted to the hospital at 36+4.  2 hours before i started pushing, i said we better come up with a girls name.  narrowed it down to 2.  and DS arrived.

#2, i am 39+4 today.  we have a solid girls name.  we have it narrowed down to 4 boy first names but no middle names yet.

We never told anyone the names we were considering so it didn’t really matter.

But we had a list of 4-5 and didn’t decide until right before we were discharged from the hospital.

At 28 weeks, I said we needed to have a name in case the baby came early. By 30 weeks we had our top 3. We picked her name within an hour or so of her birth.

des- :  We had a name picked 2 years before I even got pregnant! Thank god it was a girl so we didn’t really have to discuss names, that part I loved. I do not regret our name choice at all, either does my husband, it’s never even been a question.

Now that we’re thinking about #2 we’ve been discussing names more. I would love to have another name picked out well in advance so that we’re sure we love it.

fromatoz :  Abigail. After the King Diamond album/song about a demon that possesses a pregnant woman, kills her and then is found in a coffin eating its previous still born body.

After we went through a million other names (his next top suggestion being Valentina Selena, after his favorite brand of hot sauce and the singer) I came around to Abigail cause it was the only thing that felt right. Also, I’m fairly certain this girl IS actually a demon hellspawn that’s trying to kill me so it seemed fitting.

But halfway through debates he gave me full reign to pick whatever name I wanted but ultimately I went with his pick.

des- :  we didn’t know the sex ahead of time but we had the girl’s name picked out about half way through my pregnancy. We only came up with the boy’s name about 3 weeks before I delivered! It ended up being a girl (just like I wanted hehe) and now we’re really hoping our second child is a boy because we both fell in love with that name too!

I’m currently 28 weeks with our first and we’re team green, so double the name discussion.

We have a front-runner girl first name and then maybe 2/3 contenders for middle names.

We also have a boy name (first and middle) but I’m afraid the first is too common (top 3 for last 4 years). I love it, but part of me would hate to have our son be one of 4 with the same name in a class. We’ve thought about switching the first and middle, which would mean naming him after my deceased grandfather, which I love the idea of. But the name is, in all honesty, not my favorite.

I’m hoping we’re settled by the time I go in to labor but I’m not opposed to waiting to see them (and knowing the sex. obviously!) to decide.

I found boy names so much easier than girl names! I knew we wanted to pick a few names and then decide once the baby was born. We picked two boy names almost right away, but girl names were much harder.

When we found out we were having a girl, we narrowed it down to 3-4, and I always said that we would decide once we see the baby and we’d just kind of “know”. I always thought it was a little silly when parents have a name picked out, painted on the wall, etc., before the kid is even here! Instead, all the names we picked have fallen out of ofavour, and we have one name we kind of exclusively call her (and I call her in my head), so I guess her name is pretty much picked! Like, I can’t imagine her being born and being anything else at this point. So in the end, I did what I didn’t think I would do, and have a name picked out before she’s born!

We’ve already decided on names and we’re not even close to being pregnant! We’ve been together 4 years and I think after the first year we picked baby names and they have stayed the same ever since. If we have a girl she will be Ayla and a boy he will be Ari. We even refer to them as such sometimes lol. Like he’ll say “when we have a little Ayla we can do xyz” or “I can’t wait till we have an Ari and I can go do xyz”.

des- :  before we even ever tried, I looked at hubs one night and was like “Hey! If we ever have a boy, I like _____, and if we have a girl, I like ____, what about you?” And he is the easiest going guy ever, and agreed to both names.

I got pregnant about 6 weeks after that, and we found out it’s a boy at 12 weeks (bloodwork), and I asked if he was still good with the boy name… that was it! Haha

My ex and I picked 2 names for each (boy/girl) and once we found out he was a boy (20 weeks) we solidified a name. I was glad we did..helped me feel more connected, it was nice to reference him via name.

My Fiance and I have been discussing names as we are likely ttc next year, and we have a few names picked and I’m sure around when we find out what we’re having we will solidfy the name as well.
