how far in advance of TTC did you stop taking hormonal birth control? I know it varies from woman to woman how you regulate afterwards, but just out of curiosity, How long did it take you to regulate?
Darling Husband said last night hed like to start TTC in late January, which is earlier than what he’d said last (not that I’m complaining!) just trying to figure out a timeline 🙂

@The_Future_KB: I stopped BC in July and still
dont have a regular cycle. I took the pill for 11 years, and still didn’t expect it to take this long to regulate.

@yougotme: thanks for the feedback. were you regular before going on BC?

I stopped taking bc around 9-10 months before ttc. I would have a normal cycle then a really long one, but it regulated completely around 4 cycles after I stopped taking the pill!

I stopped in February and my cycles were slowly getting shorter (although were still around 34 days) when we conceived last month. I was on the pill for over a decade.

Stopped taking BC over a year ago and my cycle is still irregular. Prior to BC, it was normal, during it was normal and then after stopping it (I had been on it for 7+ years) my cycle just went crazy.

5 years on birth control pills, stopped taking them in October, have gotten 2 periods, but not regular or normal. We are not trying, not preventing until May, when i will start charting etc.

@The_Future_KB: I’m glad you posted this! We are going to start TTC in April after we get married but I’m wondering if I should stop the BC before that.

I guess I’m the strange one – was on the pill for 18 years. Went off and was normal pretty quickly. Cycles were short, 25-27 days, but I always ovulated and AF always came. It wasn’t a big adjustment for me coming off the pill.
The day I ovulated varied though – each cycle off the pill, I would ovulate earlier in my cycle

@taraelisabeth: yea, I’m thinking I may need to come off it before I’d planned. I’d rather stop taking it a little early and use condims for a while than wait and it take longer than id anticipated to get in a regular pattern!

I stopped taking it in July… Had one wonky cycle, two or three regular ones and got pregnant on the fifth! (First cycle of TTC rather than TTA.)

I stopped taking it over a year and a half before we TTC, for other reasons. I’d been on some form of birth control for 12 years, and that particular pill for 4 years. My cycles came back regular immediately, which surprised me because I had never had regular cycles before without BCP. The only thing that happened over time since then is my ovulation date has become a little earlier and my LP has lengthened a bit. That took about 7 cycles.

I stopped at the end of August, and had a ‘normal’ 32 day cycle, then the next cycle we TTC and got our BFP. I had thought it would take much longer so I guess we were lucky.

I was on the pill for 8 years before coming off of it in July. I don’t really remember how my cycles were pre-BCP, but they’ve been very regular now. Cycles range between 27-29 days. However, everyone is different. I’d give yourself a few months to adjust just in case.
