We booked ours about 14 months in advance. If you know the photographer you want/have to have, then you should book as soon as possible.

we booked a little over 18 months out?  we set our date/booked the venue first, then moved on to photography because it was the second most important thing on our list.

I booked mine about 4 months out.  You’ll need to nail down a date though before you can sign with your photographer.

We booked 9 months out.  But I wish we had done it sooner because our first choice was already booked.

Booked the venue first, 15 months out (it books up FAST, I had my choice on May but June was filled).  I knew I loved this particular photographer, got a great price, and wanted to make sure I got them on board, so I booked them ASAP, which ended up being 14 months out.  In my opinion you can never book your favorite vendors too early.

9 months before. one of the very first things we booked, even before our venue (which we did have to change the date on her but she was flexible)

@Kant: oh it was VERY important to me!  I had one in mind I wanted a year in advance, but they weren’t very responsive and I wasn’t getting a good vibe from them.  Then I looked for months and months and couldnt decide and got lazy and overwhelmed.  Then I found my photog and knew that was it and signed right away.  I did run into 1 other one that I considered, but they were much more expensive and booked so that was the end of that.

six months. BUT … we actually ended up changing our date to two weeks later, partly so we could get the photographer that we wanted!
