Photography is a top priority on my list as well.  We booked right around the 1 year mark.

We booked in January 2011 and our wedding is 6/2/12.  If you find a photographer you love, I say book them as soon as you can.  The photographer was the first vendor we booked!!

I booked about one year out but my photographer told me that I probably could have waited another 3 – 6 months as Sundays aren’t a popular day for him.

We booked almost 2 years ahead, though I’m sure we could have gotten the same person if we’d booked more like 8 months ahead.  We looked around, knew who we wanted, and got a fabulous price.

I think if you know who you want and how much you can afford, you should book as soon as you have a date; no harm in booking really early and you might be able to secure a good discount!

We booked 14 months out. Our photog is typically 100% booked for May-September by 7-8 months out.

A great photographer books fast unless you’re doing an off season/off peak wedding.  As soon as you fall in love with one, negotiate a deposit so you don’t regret your photos later!

My wedding is next april and I’m booking my photographer next week because I love her work so much!

@Kant: Are you getting married in Pittsburgh and looking for a Pittsburgh photographer?  If so let me tell you a little story.

I got engaged May 2010.  My original wedding date was 6/9/12.  I poked around on photography sites for a couple months and then decided to contact my favorite for pricing in September 2010, turns out they were already booked for that date.  I called 2 other photographers and they were also booked for that date.

In December 2010 I came across my photographer now.  We met and I really liked her but for some stupid reason waited around to book my date with her and when I called her in February 2011 she was booked for that date.

Instead of having to do the research all over again I moved my date to 8/18/12 and booked my photographer.

So the moral of the story is if you find a photog you really like, you live in Pittsburgh, and you are getting married during the peak season you should book them ASAP.

My thought on booking vendors is why wait? If you have the money to pay the deposits, why wait? Get them booked and in the end there will be less stess.

I knew who our wedding photographer was going to be before we even got engaged. She did one of our friend’s wedding and she just does amazing work. We got engaged in Feb. 2010. We decided on a date and venue in April and booked the photographer shortly after that. So we booked 15 months ahead of the wedding. I’m glad that we did because she raised her rates a month after we booked!
