I’m one year out exactly today, and I’ll be returning the signed contract on Monday.

We booked our venue in February, and we’re getting married in April of 2013. So roughly 14 months out, for us. But our venue is pretty new, so we didn’t have too much of a concern of it booking up.

We did ours 8 months and I think that’s late 🙂

I was only engaged for 9 months, so we booked about 7.5 months out, and the best value/most desirable venues were definitely slim pickings.  I actually sent an email to an amazing venue and got a very snotty reply back about them booking up almost three years in advance, and that they were basically laughing that someone would even INQUIRE only 8 months out… *eye roll

I think it’s definitely worth scoping out venues a bit and at least asking when they accept their earliest bookings if you have your heart set on a specific venue.

I plan events for work, and we usually have our event, debrief with the client, and then immediately rebook for the next annual event if they were pleased and sometimes have to wiggle around with dates a bit even then, so a year out is definitely not too early.

We booked 2 years in advance, we were pretty early but we wanted to get exactly what we wanted.  That being said, people had already booked dates we wanted at more popular venues.  If you love it, I say book now, no harm in doing it early.

We booked about 20 months in advance.  Most people thought we were crazy, but we did have our choice of whatever weekend/whatever venue we wanted.

About 8 or 9 months and we only got the date we wanted because of a cancelation.

a bit over a year and a half in advance(and still, the original dates we chose were already booked)

depending on the venue i would say a year is the minimum

We were allowed to hold a date about 15 months in advance. We actually booked the venue (ie: gave them the deposit) after we viewed the venue, which was about 9 months before the wedding.

A little over a year and a half…loved the venue and wanted to make sure we’d be able to have our wedding there on the date we wanted! 🙂
