Hello Bees, I’ve mentioned before that I still havent gone dress shopping, and I dont know if I am still in good timing, I think I am because I still have 9 months to go until my wedding, but since money is low right now, and Fiance still hasnt found a job I am waiting to try on dresses because I’m not sure if we will have to end up changing the date for our wedding. I know typical timing is 8 months before, but I plan to go around May, maybe even June because Randy from SYTTD will be coming to where I live in June, and I would like to meet him 😀 maybe he would be able to give me an idea of what looks best on me, if I even get to meet him personally, which could be possible because Future Brother-In-Law will be one of the ones covering his event. Anyways, I wanted to know, how far in advance did you order your dress? Do you know after what date/time do they charge you for trying to rush the process? Thanks in advance for the info!

I bought mine at the end of last Nov, and my wedding is this December, so just over a year ahead of time. I don’t have it yet… supposed to come in sometime in May. Sorry I don’t have any info on rush orders, but maybe call a couple of bridal shops in your area and ask them about it. I’m sure they’ve dealt with rush orders plenty of times before =o) Happy shopping!!

I bought mine at the end of November last year and my wedding is the beginning of June this year…so about 6-7 months beforehand?

I bought my dress 14 months in advance. I ended up picking it out about a week after we got engaged. My Future Mother-In-Law was in town from the East Coast and I thought it would be fun to include her in the shopping trip with my mom and grandmother. I didn’t think I’d end up finding a dress that day but I did. It ended up being great that I ordered so far in advance because I order it in May, it came in in November but was not right so it had to be sent back. It came back (correct this time) in late February. So it took longer than usual.
Have a wonderful time shopping. Hope you get to meet Randy from SYTTD. That would be so much fun!

I bought mine at the end of December and my wedding is at the end of May so about 5 months before my wedding. The stores I went to told me that I was very late in ordering my dress (which I think they tell anyone who hasn’t purchased their dress a year in advance). But I found the perfect dress at Davids Bridal, ordered it and picked it up by February. I think it just depends on where you get your dress, how particular you are, and how intricate the dress is. I feel like you still have plenty of time (even though people in the wedding business would disagree).
Best of luck!

I ordered my dress one month before I was engaged. lol. It was a bit of a surprise actually. When my now Fiance, I, and our friends went to NYC, I decided it would be fun to go try on dresses with the girls since I knew an engagement was coming within the next couple of months. Sure enough, I found the dress and ended up buying it there. Though the salon told me it wouldn’t come until 6 months later, it came in about 4 months after I ordered. So to echo an earlier post, you do have time but it does depend on the backlog of orders, designer, and the dress. I’m not sure of the rush fees, but I think that will vary with the bridal salon.

I bought mine nine months to the date, I think that’s pretty typical.

I bought mind mid-January & the wedding is May 26. My first fitting wasn’t until March 1 though!

I ordered mine in Feb and the wedding is in Nov for about 8.5 months out. But originally they told us that it would take 6 months for the dress to get here and then another 2 months to alter so we thought we were pushing for time! Turns out the AA dress I picked is only 3-4 months so were well in time 🙂

I bought mine in July 2011 for my August 2012 wedding… So just over a year. My dress came in the second week of January tho.. So I waited 6 months for it

I bought mine over a year before my wedding! I went and found it. It surprised me how easy it was. And when I went to pick it up, I tried it on. As far as I and the salesgirl can tell, no alterations are needed. Unless I gain or lose a ton of weight.

I ordered mine in mid March for my November wedding. Your timing is perfectly fine!

I think I found ‘the dress’ yesterday. When I asked the girl how long it would take to order, she also told me six months to order the dress and then two months for alterations, so I was starting to cut it close and really should be thinking about ordering in the next 2-3 weeks. She didn’t seem overly concerned about my available timeline, but sounded like it was starting to become tight.
That being said, last weekend I went to David’s Bridal and found two dresses that I liked – One was off the rack and I could have brought it home that day. The other one would have taken 14 weeks (3 1/2 months) to order.
So, depends on where you go, but I wouldn’t worry just yet!

I bought mine at the end of last November for my October 2012 wedding! You should still be fine on time though. My dress is scheduled to arrive in May.

I bought my dress in October for my September 2012 wedding. My first fitting isn’t until July 9th!
