How far in advance did you find/order your dress?

I bought my dress around 8 months before the wedding (coming up next month). That left me plenty of time to schedule alterations and do fittings, as well as find all the things to go with the dress (veil, shoes, petticoat, jewelry, etc.).

My situation is much like yours! I am getting married in August of 2020 and went dress shopping this past January for the first time. I fell in love with a dress and I too was in between sizes! My mom was there and loved the dress as much as I did so I said yes!! I ordered the larger size.. so I ordered mine 19 months in advance and I don’t regret it so far!

I ordered mine 10 months before. It didn’t need to be that far ahead though. I think 8 months is fine. Allowing 6 months for the dress to arrive plus 2 months for alterations (with both of these took less than that for me).

My dress arrived 4 months after ordering, ahead of the planned 6 months, so it just sat in my closet for 3 months before when I planned to take it to get altered.

Will this dress still be available at a later date? Will you have dress regret if you buy it now and see a dress you absolutely love and must have 6 months from now?

My wedding is next May and I ordered my dress this past weekend. I wanted to get that step taken care of early just to be on the safe side. I know there’s a national bridal sale in July and a ton of stores participate. I see you’re getting married in NC. I ordered my dress from a store in Wilmington and they’ll be a part of the sale as well as others. You could wait until then and see if the dress you like is on sale?

I did my dress shopping in July, 11 months before the wedding. I ended up getting my dress at a sample sale, so I was able to take it home in July.

Ordered in November for a June wedding. Was perfect amount of time- my dress was custom and came in in April. Took two months for alterations to be completed and was ready to go abut two weeks before our wedding.

moonbee :  found the dress probably 4 years earlier than I got engaged (it was a ‘real’ dress, not a wedding dress specifically). Bought it almost as soon as I had the ring… they stopped making it soon after… so 5-6 months before the wedding. Not typical, lol.

My wedding  is June 2020, I have my dress. The size fits, if I lose a few lbs will be fine with altering.  if you aren’t planning to lose many sizes I would order what fits now and after down later.

I actually purchased mine 13 months in advanced!  But that’s because I had my eye on this dress for months and they only had samples left. I’m a pretty petite size and when I went to try it on they said this was the last one in my size on my half of the state!  So I jumped on it and I’ve never been happier. Not doing alterations until about 6-8 weeks before though

There is nothing wrong with ordering it now – any alterations will be fine! A dress that is altered and measured to fit you exactly will always look best and it doesn’t matter what size it started at.

Whatever happens don’t order the smaller size in hope! Always ends badly…..

i say go for it and be happy! X
