We are 12-months from The Big Day and I have read so many different suggestions for when to send Save the Dates – anywhere from 8-months to 12-months.
When did you/are you planning to send yours?

We sent ours out at about 11 months out because we are having a destination wedding on a popular weekend so we wanted to make sure everyone had time to save and get their travel arrangements in order
Our wedding is next June and we just ordered ours. They will probably come in next week and I will probably send them out shortly after receiving them. I have some out of town family and June is such a busy month for weddings and vacations I figured better safe than sorry!
We’re getting married the Sunday before 4th of July (2012) and we sent out Save-The-Date Cards about 2 wks ago. We have a lot of family coming in from out of town and since it’s so close to the 4th and it’s the summer (lots of vacations) we figured better safe than sorry. Also, our Save-The-Date Cards were magnets so I wasn’t too concerned about them getting lost in the shuffle so far before the wedding since they’d prob get stuck to the fridge or something.
I am doing mine about 9-10 months ahead. Both families are from other states so they need to have plenty of time to get ready! I’ll even send my invites 3-4 months before so they can get rooms situated, it’s all about planning ahead!
I am doing mine at the end of November for my mid-July wedding. I think 6-8 months is a good number. The knot has timelines of typical times to do stuff like this. My reasoning is that any earlier than 8 months, and people will forget about it until the invite comes.
mine are already out! We only sent to family and bridal party. We have a lot of out-of-towners…also, it seems like every time I talk to someone about the wedding, they ask about the date! So we figured we’d send it out early so everyone knows and there are no excuses!
I think 6-8 months is a good rule of thumb. I did mine 6 months on the dot. Earlier might have been better but we are having a small-ish wedding (expecting <100 guests) and the really important people already know the date.
I just sent mine yesterday, so almost a year in advance, but it’s a destination wedding.
Confession: I had planned on sending out ours a year in advance for our reverse-DW, but I’m worried that too many of the 300+ people we have to invite will actually make plans and show up.
So I don’t think I’m gonna send any at all.
Surprise, everybody! Here’s your invites the standard 2 months-ish ahead. How fast can you plan a Hawaiian vacation?? LOL.
i meant to do 12 months, but i was a bit lazy about collecting addresses. so 11 months it is! we have a lot of family coming in from the other coast
We’re planning on sending ours out in mid November for our Sept 22 wedding, so about 10 1/2 months ahead. I was going to wait until after the holidays, but with September becoming a popular wedding month I decided to send them sooner. We’ve also had a lot of people mention that they have other friends getting married next Sept, so I want to get our Save-The-Date Cards out before everybody else.
I am 204 days out and sending them on day 200!!!
Everyone already knows the date though as I told them already, and I also did a Save the Date on Facebook.
Not many out of towners will be coming, but at least they know they are invited.
We are currently in the midst of doing the envelopes to mail ours on Tuesday. We are also 497 days away and having a hometown-destination wedding (long story). We are sending the invitations next September, but want to give people time to save.
