Our engagement will be about 7.5 months. I ordered my dress at 7 months and it just arrived last week. Our wedding is the very beginning of August.

Im in a 3 year engagement. We knew it was going to be long going into it because of a multiple of reasons. I am going through school, we wanted to save up as much as we could, and we had a specific date in mind. With that being said, I started to looking about a year after we got engaged. I did this because I wanted to take my time finding the perfect one. I had a specific idea of what I wanted and a budget to stick with. So, I wanted to make sure I had enough time to find it. Luckily, I found it recently, and now all I have to do is wait till we get a little closer to the date to get it altered.

I bought mine a year in advance, although if I were to do it all over again, I’d probably just get something simple a month in advance. Don’t get me wrong, I love my unique, designer gown. But I think I could be just as happy on the wedding day wearing something from revolve, j crew, etsy or mod cloth that cost much less. The wedding dress really isn’t as important as I thought it was when I first started planning.

I purchased my dress a year out from my wedding. It came in 4 months later. I’m kind of wishing I didn’t order so soon because I’ve lost a significant amount of weight since then through changing eating habits, and now I’m worried about alterations lol.

We are getting married quick (less than a three month engagement) so I already know I will not be ordering a dress new.  I just seriously started looking on craigslist and other used wedding dress sites yesterday and looking up local consignment shops.  I hope to have a dress within the next two weeks so I can have plenty of time for alterations.  This will be my second marriage, with my first it was practically the same, I was engaged in May and married in September.  I guess long engagements just aren’t for me, lol.

I started looking 9 months out and realized that I did not want strapless and was determined to find a trumpet gown with a gorgeous illusion back. Would I have known that was going to greatly reduce my choices I would have begun my search earlier…. 17 bridal appointments and over 100 dresses later I found it with 6 months left till the wedding. hope it comes in time for alterations!
