It is NEVER too early!! (unless your trying to lose weight or something). I bought my wedding dress two week after I got engaged in July… We didn’t even have a venue or anything quite yet. But it was the very first thing that my mom, dad and I did together and it just made it feel much more official. My wedding isn’t until May. But my brother’s fiance also bought her wedding dress around the same time and their wedding isn’t until September 2015. She still comes over to see it pretty frequently (it’s stored at my house so he won’t peak). I say get the dress whenever you find it. If you feel like you’ve found it, but your not sure… wait and go back about 2 weeks later when you have a fresh mind… then buy it. Good Luck!!!! and Have fun!!!

I ordered mine this month for my August wedding and that was cutting it close. I would go now, even if you go on your own to see what you like.

I ordered mine six months before our wedding, and that was cutting a very fine line! I’d get onto it right away and start looking now!

I bought my dress in November and it came in during the month of May. Last fitting was a week before my wedding.

I bought mine a week ago. We are getting married August 7.
We are having a short (7 month) engagement and the only thing I felt stressed out about in that timeline was ordering the dress. Everywhere I went they told me I was a bit late to be ordering. If i were you, I’d go now. I think it’s the perfect amount of time.

Thank you everyone!… Here I was thinking it was still early .. Now I just have to make arrangement to see when my Future Mother-In-Law can be in town again but I’ll definitely be going by this month. Again, thanks for all the advice!

LindAnd: My wedding is end of march this year, we got engaged in sept 2013. I actually found my dress in Nov 2013 and ordered it then. I was worried about dress regret but everytime i go in and try it on i fall in love all over again and have never considered any other dress! 🙂

You want to purchase a year to 8 months before the wedding. I am a dress consultant at a small boutique and have already had many October 2015 purchase their gowns. Don’t wait too long I always hate when brides are limited by their timelines and cannot get the dress they really want especially since many shops do not sell off the rack.

I ordered mine a few weeks ago for my November wedding. It won’t be in until July. Go now, I’d say.
