I did two appointments on the same day and felt beat to all heck. I would stick to one appointment per day. Most places allow you to go over the alloted time if you are making headway. I’m not getting married until august 2015 but thought it would be okay to start looking now since we have a venue.

You probably want to order your wedding dress about 8-9 months prior to your big day if you’re planning on ordering new.  So, depending on how long you think it’ll take you to find your perfect dress, I’d say you could start making appointments for about a year out?  I agree with just 1 appointment in a day – so you have a fresh mind!  But, if you’re the type that loves to play dress up, then maybe you’d be okay to fit in two appointments! 🙂  Just depends.  Good luck with shopping!

I made my bridal salon appointment a month in advance for a date 12 months from my actual wedding. My family and most of my bridesmaids are from out of town but I had several of them there for my engagement party so I wanted to make sure that I got a date that works. I didn’t think I would but I too felt exhausted after just six dresses!

I made my appointments for August, and made them about a month ago. I’ll be hitting four stores in one day! Haha. It’ll be a little nuts, but to have my bridal party (who are all my close family) there is worth it.

i made my appointments probably a week in advance. it was never truly thought out. i walked in to a lot of places too. so it wasn’t a big deal for me. i never went to more than one shop in one day, though. i was always exhausted and annoyed after one shop, i couldn’t handle any more that same day.

as for when to start shopping? a year out (12 months), because it can take up to 9 months for a brand new dress to come in.

nomadbride:  I did 3 shops in one day. It was work but I ended up finding my dress. I made my appointments about a month ahead of when I wanted to start looking but that was because I could only do Saturdays. If you are flexible with days and times, they can most likely get you in a week or two ahead.

I had no problems getting an appointment calling only a few days in advance, but I’m sure it’s dependent on where you live too. I wouldn’t recommend more than 3 shops in a day.

i shopped for my wedding dress in a week.  i called a week to a few days before.  one place i just went there, it was more of a floor sample sale.

but location depends.  busier areas will have longer wait times.  so call and make an appointment.  even if they have a spot available and you are not ready for 2 weeks, take that 2 week appointment when you want.
