We got engaged in April and booked our venue in May and we’re not getting married until Nov 2013. It was our biggest bill so we just wanted to get it over with.

I booked 13 months in advance.  My venue had 2 Saturdays still available for the month I was looking at.  But I wouldn’t book anything before the proposal!

3 months. Not by choice. We had to wait on any university functions to choose their dates to use the ballroom. I would say 6+ months is a good timeframe to book.

@waitingwonderland:  I know a couple who booked their spring 2013 date 18 months+ in advance

We booked ours in March 2012 for a July 2013 wedding. We found that there was still room, but places were booking up quickly. I’d recommend booking no less than 8 months out.

@waitingwonderland:  Oh, don’t book without a proposal. You can always find a place, it may not be your first choice, but you can find something a year out. Just do some market research ahead of time and then visit and book when you get a ring.

We booked our church and banquet hall 18 months out and STILL had to change our date because the hall was booked a weekend that the church was open and the church was booked another weekend that the hall was open.

5 months in advance.  Most of the places I was looking at were still open, too.  But our day is a Friday, so less demand.

You’ll definitely find places so don’t panic. But it’s the first thing we did, and it was a year out and we had limitations on choices. However we picked a very popular summer vacation area to get married in so it’s no surprise it booked up fast
