Honestly I’d just go to whichever office is closest, as my time is worth more than the potential $25-35 savings.

I was going to go to a courthouse 15 miles from our house just to save $10. But I was super busy so I didnt get time, instead I ended up going to a closer one & paying more.

@Sugaree:  Haha, we did this. We drove to the neighboring county to save $35 bucks. Also, no line. Woohoo! It was probably a 20 mile difference each way, so marginally worth it?

I would probably drive to the neighboring county because I love saving money.

It depends if I was planning on living in my current country for a long time. Because if you ever need a copy of your marriage certificate in the future, in my state you can either get it from the office that issued it initially, or pay more/wait longer to request it from the state capital. So if you are planning on living in that county long term, I would suck it up and pay the extra fee so if you ever need another copy, it’s less of a hassle.

I wouldn’t go very far, unless I had plans already to be in that area during operating hours.

My time is ++ valuable to me.If you take my hourly rate and multiply that by the time it would take to complete the task inlcluding travel, it would have to come out significantly cheaper.   Not to mention it will cost you gas money to get to the other location and back.

So basically if we are talking about 35 dollars, no way.  If it was 100’s of dollars cheaper then maybe.

I didn’t even know that differing counties had different prices.  I’m just getting mine from the county we live in.  I honestly don’t have the time to try to “price” shop on a piece of paper lol.

Hm, interesting question. Though I would factor in the cost of gas. Would I really be saving any money by eating up what’s in the tank? Probably not…

$34 bucks for extra 25 miles which might be another 30 minutes?  Yeah, that outweighs the cost of gas so I’d probably do it… especially if it were a nice drive or there was a stop that I could go to that I normally would take the time to go to.

And WOW that is exensive!  Ours was only $25.

It depends on the cost of the gas. If the gas money you spend driving further away is the equivalent to the savings for the license, then I would just call it a wash and stay closer to home. I don’t know how financially strapped you are, but I personally would consider driving the distance if I save at least $30 overall because as they say, “Time is money” so there’s your time spent driving out of your way.

I wouldn’t drive any farther.  The cost of these things is so minor compared to all the other money being spent on that day, it’s not really worth much effort.  I’d rather save time and effort.
