I had a big baby (9.7) and she wore a few NB sleepers and outfits for the first three weeks or so. After that she was in 0-3M stuff until she was about 12lbs at 6-8 weeks. A lot of the footed sleepers she outgrew around 6 weeks, other stuff like onsies she was in until 8 weeks. She is now ten weeks old and almost 14lbs (95 percentile so there is a very little chance that your baby would be bigger than her) and we are just now really getting to 3-6M stuff.  We also were I size 1 diapers until about 6 weeks when we switched to the 1-2 size. Now at 10 weeks she is ready for the size 2 diapers.

Baby Bear was 8lbs 7oz at birth.

She weighs 11lbs8oz now, at 2 months.

She was out of NB at about 3 wks, had to give them away to another pregnant friend.LOL She wears 0 to 3 months, more on the 3 months side. I also registered for 0 to 3 months clothes that I didn’t get a lot of. No one likes to buy gender neutral clothes.LOL

I’d go for buying more 0 to 3 months. as far as diapers, at least 2 packs of NB for the stump. My baby’s didn’t call off for 3 wks, long time for some.lol

One more thing…  My baby is growing like a weed.  She was born 8 lb 8 oz and at her one-month pediatrician visit she was already 12 lb 3 oz.  She’s in the 99th percentile for weight, and 98th percentile for length and head circumference.  She never wore her NB clothes and she’s not far from outgrowing her 3-month clothes.  I bet she’ll be in 6-month clothes by Christmas.

I’m breastfeeding exclusively on demand, and from my understanding you can’t overfeed a breastfed baby.  But, sometimes formula-fed babies gain faster.  I would say get a small amount of each size since there are so many variables to consider.

my oldest daughter was in 0-3 six weeks and never fit in NB. My youngest wore NB for 2 months and 0-3 five months. It varies child to child.

Now that I’m actually shopping for baby clothes, I’d love to hear more about specific brands. For instance, which ones run big or small.

You all have been such a help and I’ve bookmarked this thread for sometime now, and I’m glad I can finally put it to use! *fingers crossed all continues smoothly*

Here’s my experience in brands:

Gerber – runs small

Carter – about true to size

Baby Gap – has really weird sizing (like 6-12 months, instead of 6, months, 9 months, and 12 months), so they fit better towards the end of the recommended sizing

Old Navy – runs a little large

Circo – runs large and a little wide

Granimals – runs large

Of course, it all depends on your baby.  He/she could be big for his/her age and be wearing one size of one brand and a different size in another brand.  So you really never know until he/she gets here.  ๐Ÿ™‚
