Once when I wake up and once before I go to bed. If I am getting ready to go out or something I may do it then too, otherwise I just rely on gum.

It depends.  No matter what, I do every night (and floss) before bed (and I brush for a really long time).

I will also brush during the day after eating something sweet or sticky (if I eat ice cream or chocolate or something)- I try to.

I also do in the morning if I am going out, but not always if I am just working in my studio.

Some people have naturally bad breath (poor DH) but I luckily don’t.

@MissTatas: ditto. If I take another shower too I usually will. Like after the gym or before going out.

Between two and three times a day. Definitively when I get up and soon before I go to bed, and usually once in between.

Definitely 2, when I wake up and before I go to bed. If I take a nap or if I’m going out or I eat something that makes my mouth taste bad then I’ll brush then too.

Oh, and whenever I go to the gym. I don’t know why, but whenever I get done working out I always have to brush my teeth before I come home.

I brush my teeth twice a day. When I’m leaving the house, I do a quick Listerine swish. I do this first swish because I don’t eat until I get into work, usually a granola bar, so I want my clean teeth before I leave and eat. After lunch, I brush my teeth and do my second Listerine swish. Before bed, I brush my teeth and do a flouride rinse.

Always when I wake up and go to bed. If they’re feeling grimy or I’m going out in the evening, I’ll brush them again in the afternoon.

Just two at this point, but I’m starting to feel like I need to brush after lunch at work.

twice.. as soon as I get up in the morning and right before I go to bed. I’m a teacher and usually barely have time to eat at lunch let alone brush my teeth! haha. If it’s a weekend and I’m going out, it might be three times because I like to brush my teeth before heading out anywhere fancy 🙂

Twice. Once when I get up and once when I am about to go to sleep. I should floss more often though!

What about an average of less than 1, or an average of more than one but not always two, etc.

    I brush like… 1.6 times a day. I floss 6 times a week. I use mouthwash 4 or 5 times  a week.

Never had a cavity. No gum disease or borderline receeding gums.

Brushing too much or too hard or with too hard of bristles can ruin your gumline. All you 3x a day brushers–make sure you have soft bristles!

Five or six times per day, if I can – if I’m not at home or don’t have access to a toothbrush, I chew sugarless gum instead.  This goes back to when I was 12 and had braces I’m sure.  I couldn’t stand to have food caught in my braces so would brush every time I ate – which of course involved bringing a toothbrush to school!  Ha, how cool was I!?!?    Anyway, it’s a habit that dies hard as nearly 20 years later, I still brush after every meal and nearly always have a travel sized toothbrush/toothpaste in my purse.   Needless to say, I’ve never had a cavity.

@ellabee:  I second that on soft bristles!!!!   Also, avoid brushing immediately after drinking carbonated drinks as the carbonation softens your tooth enamel and brushing immediately thereafter, wears away your enamel.   Rinse with water, chew sugarless gum, and wait a bit before brushing.

And now I am officially climbing down off my oral hygiene pulpit!  ha!  🙂
