desertgypsy :  Haven’t read of even heard of this letter until now but I already thought this is absolutely part of a plan to shrink the government.  I think it’s highly likely that a lot of furloughed employees are never coming back.

desertgypsy :  omg I didn’t notice that your link was to the daily caller before clicking it, I almost dropped my phone when it opened lol.  I feel like it needs sanitizing now 😂

It looks like the daily caller & the daily mail are the only sources that published this letter from a “senior trump official” I don’t put much stock in it being real.  It’s just the right wing media machine trying to influence its viewers.

wildflowerz :  I agree – I haven’t heard anything about this around my agency or the others that we work with.  I don’t think this will happen.

I gave fair warning about the source 😂 It just gave me pause when I heard about it because our parks already operate on a skeleton crew in the best of times and the shutdown has really illustrated how people are assholes and need a babysitter to enjoy our wild places without setting shit on fire and literally pooping everywhere. And this administration has demonstrated time and time again they are shady AF

I have never in a million years seen a President act like such a toddler.

It’s going to take some massive crisis for this to end. He is sacrificing any chance at 2020 by dragging this on the way he is because many of the people who voted for him will remember this. He is intentionally jeopardizing their livelihood to play fuck fuck games.

How long until his party totally abandons him? A veto could easily be overridden in 2 seconds as long as the Republicans are on board.

desertgypsy :  You did include a warning, I glazed over it somehow. The negligence was all mine.

sf618b :  How long will it take until his party abandons him?  Maybe if the day ever comes when trump is no longer more popular than Mitch in Mitch’s own state.  Maybe then.

“Fuck fuck games.”  Big fan of this expression.

Sansa85 :  I guess I am befuddled as an outsider how his actions seem strong as opposed to weak? I mean to me a leader that allows it’s goverment to stop doing it’s job properly is weak. A leader who let’s public servants, the backbone of most countries, and their families have to survive on food banks and the generousity of other hardworking citizen’s is weak. A leader that can’t bring the two sides of government together for the greater good of the country is weak. A leader that let’s the most vulnerable of the countries citizens suffer is weak.

Holding talks and compromising is strong. Throwing a tantrum is weak.

As an outsider I have been reading this thread feeling such sorrow for everyone. As a life long public servant it breaks my heart that your public servants are being treated like this and that there is zero recourse for them (like striking) due to the ease in which they would lose their jobs.

I already didn’t have a high opinion of the American government system and long tutted over claims of being “leader of the free world”. I just hope other nations, like my own, who have political parties that wish to emulate the American system open their eyes and really see this. As workers rights are slowly eroded in my country, I fear that we will end up like this.

j_jaye :  they’ve always seen him as strong. He’s nothing but a bully

They see him stomping his feet as standing strong against the dems.

What I don’t understand is people who think Pelosi and Schumer are doing the same thing that trump is doing, that all three are acting like toddlers who won’t compromise. The one who won’t compromise is him, he won’t pass a bill that does not include funds for his wall. The bills have included funds for border security such as more employees, technology, and even fencing I believe. He’s refusing that.

It irritates me to see the news about dems not supporting border security, the way the news is twisted disgusts me. It happens on both sides

j_jaye :  For a president to be so beholden to his base is extremely weak, politically.  He doesn’t understand this though, it’s useless to him since he has no interest in governing and does not play by campaign & election laws.  He thinks his small base is enough when paired with cheating & hacking & other illegal acts to get him a second term.

As far as public servants being the backbone of most countries-Decades of demonizing & disparaging of public servants by the right has made too many of us see them not at all as the backbone of the country.  Too many of us (and this is much less common in the under 30 or 40 crowd, thankfully) thinks public servants are useless, lazy & parasitic.  Hence the need for a “business man” president.  There is a ton of animosity towards public sector here.

State environmental employee here, that is actually affected by shutdown. It is no vacation! You have to be ready to report back to work at a moments notice, so even if you have a good financial cushion…you can’t plan anything. Back pay is not guaranteed…though they usually do pay everyone retroactively. Regardless, total PITA because in the mean time you go to the unemploymemt line only to turn around and pay them back with the retroactive pay.

Americans should be pissed!!! Everyone should be writting in to reps and senators. This wastes more money!! Because of the retroactive pay, the governmemt is essentially giving out money to people who have done no work. And for people not following this…are you living under a rock? Jeeezzzz
