Am I the only crazy one here? I feel like what I want has changed so much in the 4 months we’ve been ring shopping.
I went from wanting: A cushion cut, to falling in love with round brilliants.
Just wanting to wear an engagement ring forever, to wanting a wedding band also.
Double Halo to a Single Halo to just a Paved Band to a simple Solitaire.
Diamond to a love affair with moissanite.
And most recently went from loving 6 prongs to 4 prongs.
And I hope I’m done, I spend way to much time on the interwebs looking at ring pictures. But I’m absolutely in love with a very simple white gold 4 prong, solitaire, with an eternity wedding band. I still can’t decide between the 1.25 and 1.5 but I think I’ll let J pick between them so he has SOME say in my ring. Hahaha. He wanted to pick it out at first. I said no way. 🙂
I feel like what I thought I wanted (and went ring shopping for) didn’t end up being what I’m drawn to in real life and pictures on the Bee.
Anyone else have a similar experience? (please do, so I don’t feel crazy.)

I went from wanting a peridot to wanting a Moissanite and back to wanting a peridot, and flipped between rose and white gold before deciding on palladium. I’ve been all over the place!

Um, yeah, and it hasn’t stopped and I’ve been married for nearly 5 years! I just love diamond rings And there’s nothing wrong with that, lol!! I started with a round solitaire, changed it (had to due to accident) to a 3 stone with side sapphires and I love love love it! BUT, I still lust over other styles and I don’t know if I’ll have this one forever. Luckily, my hubs is okay with me changing it. I think I’ll stick with mine for a long time because I truly do love it, but I think it’s okay to change it throughout your life as your styles change. I have learned though that wanting something in the abstract is very different than wearing it. So maybe order a couple cheapy cz rings in different styles and see which you like wearing the most? Although if you’re going with a solitaire and eternity band – you cannot go wrong there!! Classic, blingy, perfect!

All my life I thought I wanted a princess cut solitare, but when I actually went to look at them, I really really disliked them! I also disliked other things like channel set and emerald cuts but ended up really liking them in person.
I ended up with a 2 carat round brillant with some very small channel set round diamonds on the side. Its funny how your mind changes lol

I originally wanted the tiffany emerald cut with baguette side stones…. and ended up with a 6 prong round brilliant in yellow gold.

I would say that I might have considered exchanging my solitaire for a halo because I came on here and saw so many gorgeous halos. I do not plan to wear an additional wedding band so a halo with a pave band would have been cool as a one ring look. However, my fiance detests halos (can’t believe he has a preference), pave bands and nearly every cut other than round brilliant so it’s a no go. Good thing I still adore the round brilliant solitaire look for itself.
I also really wanted a moissy after reading more about Amora here, but my SO and I know my mom would have swooned away at the thought so we decided that he’d get the engagement ring and then quit buying diamonds forevermore. I am looking forward to eventually getting some OEC Amora stud earrings in the future.

I thought I wanted a solitaire with hideen diamonds, then I quite liked bezel, but my heart was won over buy a sapphire and diamond cluster ring.

Yes! I started wanting a really intricate Tacori setting with a round brilliant > then a large halo solitaire with a plain band > something with a ruby > large marquise diamond solitaire > cushion cut diamond with tapered baguettes > then my forever ring which is a three stone oval ring with a 4 ct dark red ruby as the center and 2 1.25 carat diamonds.
Not at all a natural progression. I just never “knew” until I saw a picture of my forever ring. I found the ring while looking through an old Sotheby’s catalog and knew that was it. We had it custom made and the rest is history. When you know, you know.

@Paiger8: I’ve been all over the place. In the last year I’ve been flip flopping between a Ring Bearer solitaire, radiant solitaire (first yellow diamond then white diamond), and now Tiffany Soleste (yellow diamond). The only thing that has stayed constant is the platinum!
I found that as I started trying things on, my taste changed based on what looked good. I was hopelessly underwhelmed by the Ring Bearer solitaires – even the ones from Tiffany’s! My bf and I both fell in love instantly with the Soleste. I’ve always had a soft spot for yellow diamonds, but wondered if I’d want to wear one every single day. I think that I do! I really hope I don’t change my mind again lol.

OP, no dear you have company! I’ve been positively schizophrenic over the last few months trying to choose a ring!!! We’ve been to sooooo many jewelry stores, even ordered loose stones from BTD, looked at countless settings, semi mounts, diamonds, moissanites….I’ll bet all tallied up I’d have a list of 100 different combos! The friendly folks at BTD, blue Nile and Moissyco probably want me dead!!! STALKER!
And in the end, we ordered a simple solstice solitaire from moissyco. And guess what? Two days after we placed the order, I contacted them to change my metal!!!
Thankfully my Fiance just laughs it off…and keeps whippin the credit card out. I promised promised promised this one IS IT!!! It arrives next week….we’ll see 😉

I was allllll over the place with ring shopping and it took me 2 months of shopping every weekend to figure out what style was right for me. I started with wanting a round brilliant set in a petite pave halo with a pave band. Then I tried them on and it was way to much bling (seriously, who says that?????). Then I completely shifted gears to a bezel set RB solitaire. They left me decidedly underwhelmed when I tried them on. Then I shifted to a modern kite set Ring Bearer solitaire that reminded me of a wave, but I just wasn’t sold. Then I found a Tacori 8 prong Ring Bearer that had a nice shape, but all of the Tacori detailing made it feel to fussy for me. And I finally ended up with a 3 stone that has the profile of a classic 6 prong Tiffany solitaire because the 2 side diamonds are petite and semi-bezel set in the band. It was a custom design because nothing that was commercially available felt right for me.
The only two things that were consistent throughout my search process was wanting a Canadian Ring Bearer stone and wanting the setting to be made of palladium. I love aschers, but had an issue with their small face-up size in comparison to the Ring Bearer. Since I have an 8.25 ring size, finger coverage was a concern, and our agreed-upon budget limited us to no more than 1ct for a good quality stone. I felt like a 1ct asscher faced-up too small for my fat finger. :/ And I’ve almost exclusively worn white metals for the past 20+ years, am allergic to many white gold alloys, and hate how heavy platinum feels, so palladium was the only metal I was willing to have.

Way before I got a ring, I wanted a three stone ring with big diamonds and lots of bling. But when my Fiance proposed to me, he surprised me with a 4 princess diamonds shaped together in a square, then 2 lines of stones above and beneath that and in the center on each side of the princess diamonds, there were like 6 emerald cut diamonds. I never liked solitaires or anything but 3 stone but i love the ring he gave me =)

This is the ring my then fiance and I originally fell in love with. We used to go to the store just to visit it once a week!
THEN, one day during one of our visits, I thought I’d try something different on just for the heck of it, and this is what we both fell in love with 🙂

I have my ering and yet i still change my mind in my head! LOL. I thought i always wanted a princess cut solitaire. Then i saw a three stone interlocking wedding and ering set, then i fell in love with step cuts. And then halos! I still love them all but in the end ended up with an emerald cut with side baguettes. I still wondered about halos though and who knows maybe down the road i’ll upgrade.
