- Wedding: September 2013
In July, my wonderful husband-to-be planned a fairly big engagement but our engagement was pretty casual in the end.
We travel alot and we decided to take a trip to my dream island, St Lucia. We are both in the travel industry so we redeemed our free nights at Sandals Grande St Lucian. About a week prior to our departure, my fiancee told me that he got us a complimentary night at the most glorious hotel on earth. Jade Mountain.
This resort is one of those places where I’ve always dreamed of going to but never thought it would be possible ($2300/night, infinity pool suite, private butler, etc). He also talked about how he had arranged a private boat transfer from Sandals to the hotel and private insuite couples massages.
I am apparently oblivious to life and really didn’t think anything was odd about this.
My coworker bluntly told me “you realize he’s going to propose right?”
One day he even asked what size my ring size was haha.
So I guess my hubs-to-be really wanted to knock this out of the park except for one problem. He didn’t have a ring.
Upon arrival at Sandals he had visited Emerald Jewelers secretly but couldn’t find a ring good enough in his budget. He was pretty bummed about this and felt like it just wasn’t “perfect”. I wouldn’t have cared!
On the third day of our vacation, it was a beautiful day and we were sitting on the baclony at Sandals, I was applying my makeup, sitting in a rope, kind of looking like a mess when my fiancee came over and got on one knee.
I tried to remember what he said…It is kind of fuzzy now but I believe it was along the lines of…”You make me a better man. I love you with all of my heart and I want you to be my wife”.
He confessed that he didn’t have a ring and had set up the whole event at Jade Mountain to make it extra special. But now that he had no ring he felt like a loser. Awww. What a guy. I told him he had to propose just the way he had planned to at Jade Mountain the following day! I wanted to see what he had up his sleeves ring or no ring.
So we took our private boat transfer to Jade Mountain and had a glorious breakfast on the rooftop restaurant. After settling into our suite he sat me down at the edge of our infinity pool and re-proposed. This time it was a bit more lengthy of why he wanted me to be his bride and it was magical. I said YES!
Our masseuses came in, we had our massages followed by a romantic rose petal candlelit jacuzzi bath afterwards.
We got dressed up and my fiancee led me up to the rooftop terrace where he had set up a private candlelit dinner for two under the stars. I cannot even tell you quite how beautiful it was. It was unreal. Since the resort is built into a mountain it was like you could reach up and just grab yourself a star from the sky.
Later that night he had our butler set up the room with candles and tropical flower petals all over the tables and bed. He even had fresh mangoes waiting for us in the room. It was so perfect.
I don’t have very many photos but to give you an idea…
