‘How to ask for cash’ is a popular question and I wanted to share my approach with everyone.
My fiance and I live together and own a home. Sure, there are a handful of items I might like to have but not enough to fill a registry. At first, my Mom was upset when I told her that I wasn’t doing a registry and said I would prefer monetary gifts but she was very happy with how we went about it.
On our wedding website, I created a “Registry” page where I put the following: “The happy couple has chosen not to register for gifts becuase they feel that their cozy home is already complete.”
I also created a “Charities We Support” page and said: “The couple has chosen to support the following charities as a part of their wedding celebration:” Then I listed the charities websites to which we were donating as a part of the wedding and added a link. (We are donating to our Church, Brides Against breast Cancer, and a breed-specific animal shelter that protects the breed of dog we have.)
Then I sent an email to the parents (4 people) and bridal party (4 people) telling them that IF a guest WOULD LIKE to give us a gift to please ENCOURAGE the guest to give us a monetary gift or donate to a charity we support.
This lack of registry and word-of-mout approach seems to be palatable to everyone involved. We will see how it turns out!
