  • poll: Why did you pick the date that you did?

It was a very special and specific date for me (give reasons)

It was just what worked out with vendors

I wanted a certain date but it didn't work out :(

We’re getting married the day after our 5 year anniversary.

We wanted a summer Saturday.  We printed a calendar of the summer months and crossed out any summer Saturdays where we or our parents or bridal party were already busy.  Then we looked at venues and looked at their availability.  Then of the days that there were venues we liked that were available that were also where everyone was available, we were down to only like 3-4 Saturdays in the summer.

We chose the one we did because my Fiance is a college professor and it will be between semesters but also have enough time after before semester starts that we could have a small honeymoon (hoping to have a larger one in the winter – I like warm destinations when it is cruddy at home).

Coincidentally the date is only 2 days from the anniversary of our first date (two years prior), so that turned out to be pretty cool.

We really wanted Valentine’s Day 2010, and since my parents were paying for almost all of it, they wanted me to finish college first, which was May 2010. They suggested Valentine’s Day 2011, but we didn’t want a long engagement (2 years), so I suggested August 14, 2010, which was 6 months after Valentines Day. It would be summer, it worked out that it was on a Saturday, and even though it was longer than we wanted and risked having conflicts with softball (we didn’t), it ended up being ok because I had to have surgery in June 2010 and RAI treatment.

I always thought I wanted a fall wedding, big church, very traditional…until June 29, 2012 my Fiance proposed! We wanted our wedding date to be a meaningful date, I thought about his dads birthday, but he wasn’t a fan of it (his dad passed away when he was 8, so he didn’t want the sad memory of that on our wedding day) soooo to make a long story short we decided to have it the following year on the exact same day he proposed, which lands on a Saturday! He loves the date even more because it’s one less date he has to remember! hahaha! So needless to say we are having a summer wedding, outside and very non traditional and I’m loving it even more then what I dreamed it would be!

I really really wanted a winter wedding.  But after consideration, I realized that a big winter storm may prevent guests from attending.

We finally decided on April 21, since we wanted to make sure everyone was able to make it who wanted to come.  My guest list was made up of about 75% farmers, so it all worked out in the end.

Less vendors, and more ‘friends and family’ – because I know and am related to a lot of teachers, we’re hoping to have it on the weekend over half term, so it’s easier for them to travel and get to us!

We were looking for a Sunday (Jewish wedding), and summer to account for unpredictable e weather in our area. I couldn’t believe it that we were able to get June 16, what would have been my grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary! They were a great couple and I’m so happy to be able to share their wedding date! It’s also incredible to think of the differences in the time… 2013 vs 1943!

We liked the sound of 3-13-13. We actually have an appointment at 3:13pm! It’s a Wednesday.

It falls during his Spring Break. We originally wanted October (our anniversary month), but he might be going away to grad school. Also, I don’t think I could’ve waited till oct. I was going to burst!

My family is Chinese, we’re supersitious, so it wasn’t an exact date, but more of an auspicious time.

We were looking at a particular month and it was just what worked out with vendors. The month didn’t have any special meaning, we just thought April was enough time to plan, decent weather for our guests to travel in, and before you get into the high season of graduations/weddings/holiday weekends/parties. We did get a discount from a bunch of our vendors since Nov – April are off months!

@shrubfish09:  We wanted spring, but nothing was written in stone. May 9th was cheaper, it was in spring, and it just happened to work with all of our life events.

I picked that the date worked out with vendors, but it was really that it worked out with our work schedule.  It just happened to be a really cool date too.
