a wood padded folding chair typically costs $2.75 to rent in my area.

And yes, chairs are very important IMO. i personally always notice the chairs when i browse wedding pictures online. so we spend $12 each to rent our white compass chairs (we don’t have that many guests though).

but we do need to see your venue and decor plan before we can comment on whether a folding chair would do much better than the one your venue has provided.

This is a great question as I have the same dilemma.  I feel like it’s a waste of money to spend so much on chairs but just like you, I don’t feel like the chairs that the venue provides “work” for our overall feel.  Curious to see how others respond.

lkpv:  What are your colors?  Do those chairs fit with it?  350 guests is a LOT of chairs.  I would use them if you can make them go with your overall look.  They just need to blend in.

lkpv:  I think most of your guests would rather you spend  your $1400-$1800 or more, on something they will notice more than the chairs- food and wine would come to mind.

I would use the chairs provided by the venue. They are low profile, will hardly be noticed beside the tables, and are a neutral color.

Most people wouldn’t notice them but because I’m going for a certain look for my wedding, they’re a big deal to me.

That being said, we’re paying $6 for chiavari chairs to seat 300 guests.

lkpv: Unless budget is a HUGE issue, I would rent new ones. Though some guests won’t notice it, I, the bride, would… granted that I am more particular than the average person. Pictures and videos are very important to me and I would be bothered afterwards if I looked at the chairs (which I was unsure of) knowing I could have gotten chairs I’m happier with.

lkpv: I notice chairs because I’m weird like that however I think it’s because I’m all about atmosphere and how everything comes together as a whole. If the chairs stick out like a sore thumb then I would remember them because they won’t “go with” everything else. If they weren’t 100% in keeping with the colour scheme or theme but weren’t too noticeable and blended in pretty well then I wouldn’t really give them a second thought. I wouldn’t judge the couple because at the end of the day, they’re just chairs. As long as they aren’t really uncomfortable then I’m appreciative of the bride and groom for giving me somewhere to sit in the first place.

lkpv: Have you thought about covering the chairs provided possibly with a cover and sash? It will probably cost you less than renting the other chairs.

Chairs were really important to me and one of our bigger expenses but our situation was totally different. We had only around 70 ppl and our venue did NOT come with chairs. Since we were renting anyways I wanted to get nice ones.  This is is a photo from our wedding where you can see the chairs we got : http://www.jacquelineelizabeth.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/blog54.jpg

Honestly, normally when people ask if they should pay more for the chairs I say ‘yes’ but those ones that come with your venue are not that bad! They are pretty low profile and don’t call attention to themselves. It’s not like they are metal and padded with a hideous fabric

A chair is a chair is a chair. It didn’t matter to me for my wedding as long as they were functioning. The chair you describe is simple, but it works. I’d rather spend that chair money on something more important.

I don’t even remember what the chairs at our wedding looked like.  If I was a guest at your wedding I’d be much more concerned about other things (like food).

I would rent new ones, they look like school chairs.

To be honest I eliminated a few venues because they had ugly chairs lol. We’re deciding between a few right now they all come with the white resin chairs with padding. Chairs are a huge focal point in a room and if you are spending the money on beautiful decor, I think you should spring for the nice chairs too, or they will stick out like a sore thumb. Some people are not that concerned with decor, which is fine too! But I think you will regret it if you’re going for a certain ambiance and your chairs don’t match.

We just used the chairs provided by the venue, since they were already include. What was extra was if we wanted a cover, but I hate those things so we opted not to. I always get my heels caught in them when sitting, and just didn’t want to spend the extra. They were comfortable enough on their own.

Those do look uncomfortable, so I would probably rent new ones if you’re OK spending the money.
